Alipay is China's largest payment platform, operated by Ant Group. In Poland, it is not a payment method for local consumers but a cross-border method for capturing payments from Chinese tourists, international students, and Greater China residents. This page sets out which merchants stand to benefit from it.
Online payments by local consumers in Poland are handled by BLIK, bank transfers, and cards, so treating Alipay as a method aimed at Polish consumers will lead to miscalculating its impact. Alipay's user base consists of the Chinese community and visitors within Poland, along with cross-border commerce serving Greater China consumers. Given tourism demand in Warsaw and Krakow and growing exchange as a Central and Eastern European logistics hub, it plays a limited but clear role for businesses with a Greater China customer touchpoint.
Adoption makes sense for businesses that serve Chinese tourists' tours, ticketing, and retail purchases, offer services to Greater China international students, or want to reach Alipay+ partner wallet users. For a shop targeting general Polish consumers, local methods such as BLIK take priority.
Payment is completed when the consumer scans a QR code with the Alipay app or selects Alipay at online checkout and approves it via in-app authentication. Even though the consumer pays in their home currency such as CNY, the merchant's proceeds are received by Hecto Financial in Polish zloty (PLN) based on the store's location, converted, and then settled to the Korean merchant. Given the cross-border nature of these transactions, keeping currency labeling consistent across order and receipt data helps with settlement reconciliation.
Integrating through Hecto Financial lets a Korea-registered corporation consider adopting Alipay payments without a separate local contract in Poland. Actual support availability and terms (settlement cycle, fees, currency options) vary by the merchant's industry and transaction volume, so confirmation with Hecto Financial's sales team is required before signing a contract.
※ This section describes the general support process and does not guarantee actual integration availability for any specific merchant. Please confirm the exact scope of support and fees through a consultation.
Confirm whether a contract is possible on the basis of a Korea-registered business
The integration approach and priority differ depending on your mix of online sales channels, such as your own store, open marketplaces, or a mobile app
Advance confirmation is needed on whether your products fall under categories restricted by Alipay's merchant policy
Confirmation is needed on compliance with EU payment regulations such as PSD2 and SEPA (see official sources below)
For Alipay transactions, merchant settlement works by having Hecto Financial receive the locally generated currency, Polish zloty (PLN), convert it, and pay the Korean merchant in whichever of USD, KRW, or JPY was chosen under contract. Refunds are processed as refunds of the original Alipay transaction, and transactions taking place within the EU may also be subject to local consumer protection standards such as a 14-day withdrawal right, so please factor this into your refund policy in advance.
Hecto Financial's team will work with you to review a payment-method mix suited to the Polish market.
