PayPal is an account-based wallet operated across Europe by PayPal (Europe) S.à r.l., based in Luxembourg. In Poland, where BLIK handles everyday payments, PayPal has a distinct role as a trust device for purchases from overseas merchants — that is, cross-border transactions. Here are the key criteria for Korean businesses evaluating this integration.
Everyday online payments among Polish consumers are handled by BLIK and bank transfers, but the calculation changes when buying from an overseas site. Instead of entering card details directly on an unfamiliar foreign merchant's site, consumers tend to prefer paying through a PayPal account, which comes with buyer protection procedures. Poland is the largest e-commerce market in Central and Eastern Europe, and cross-border purchases are also growing steadily, making PayPal a cross-border payment channel that complements local methods for businesses selling directly from Korea.
If your business is one where consumers clearly recognize you as a 'seller based outside Poland' — such as a Korean brand's direct-to-consumer store, or a game or digital service — offering PayPal alongside BLIK provides a trust-boosting effect. Conversely, for a localized Polish-language store serving only local customers, PayPal is a lower priority compared to BLIK.
When a consumer selects PayPal, they log in to their account, choose a registered card or bank account as the payment method, and approve the transaction — the login and device authentication steps support PSD2's Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) requirements. The approved amount is collected by Hecto Financial in Polish zloty (PLN), converted, and then settled to the domestic merchant. One operational point that differs from card payments is that PayPal's buyer protection process runs in parallel when a dispute (case) is filed.
By integrating through Hecto Financial, a domestic corporation can consider adopting PayPal payments without a separate local contract in Poland. Actual availability and terms (settlement cycle, fees, currency options) vary depending on the merchant's industry and transaction volume, so confirmation with the Hecto Financial sales team is required before signing a contract.

Confirm whether a contract is possible based on a domestic business registration
The integration method and priority vary depending on your online sales channel mix, such as owned store, marketplace, or mobile app
Advance confirmation is needed on whether your products fall under restricted categories per PayPal's merchant policy
Confirmation is needed on compliance with EU payment regulations such as PSD2 and SEPA (see official sources below)
The settlement structure is the same even for transactions made via PayPal. Hecto Financial collects the zloty (PLN) amount generated in Poland, converts it, and pays the domestic merchant in USD, KRW, or JPY, whichever currency was chosen at contract time. Refunds are processed as original transaction refunds, and since PayPal's dispute process and the EU's 14-day right of withdrawal can operate as separate tracks, it is safer to reflect both in your CS policy.
The Hecto Financial team can help you review a payment method mix suited to the Polish market.
