🇵🇱 Poland BLIK Payment Integration Guide

BLIK is Poland's leading e-commerce payment method, operated by Polski Standard Płatności, a joint venture of six major Polish banks. This page sets out how a Korean merchant can support this method — where payment is completed with a single six-digit one-time code — through Hecto Financial, along with the conditions to confirm before adoption.

When to consider BLIK payments in Poland

Poland is the largest e-commerce market in Central and Eastern Europe, worth around 30 billion euros a year, with the domestic platform Allegro serving as the starting point for shopping in a distinctive ecosystem of its own. The clear leader in online payments in this market is BLIK. Operated by Polski Standard Płatności, a joint venture of six major banks, it has more than 16 million users who complete online payments with a six-digit one-time code. Its share of online payments is estimated to have grown to roughly 70%, making it effectively the default method, not an optional one, when selling to Polish consumers.

Across nearly every category that sells to Polish consumers — fashion and beauty, digital content, travel — not supporting BLIK translates directly into drop-off at checkout. This is especially true if your core customers are shoppers in their 20s to 40s buying primarily through mobile web and apps, for whom BLIK's completion-rate advantage of finishing with a single code, without entering card details, is substantial. See the comparison table below for how it differs from other methods worth reviewing alongside it in Poland.

Basic flow of BLIK payments in Poland

When the consumer selects BLIK at checkout, they generate a six-digit one-time code in their banking app, enter it, and give final approval via a push notification in the banking app. This "code entry plus in-app confirmation" process naturally satisfies the Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) required by PSD2, and the approval result is delivered to the merchant in real time. Funds are received by Hecto Financial in Polish zloty (PLN), converted, and then settled to the Korean merchant, so the merchant does not need to hold a local Polish account.

Hecto Financial's BLIK coverage

Integrating through Hecto Financial lets a Korea-registered corporation consider adopting BLIK payments without a separate local contract in Poland. Actual support availability and terms (settlement cycle, fees, currency options) vary by the merchant's industry and transaction volume, so confirmation with Hecto Financial's sales team is required before signing a contract.

※ This section describes the general support process and does not guarantee actual integration availability for any specific merchant. Please confirm the exact scope of support and fees through a consultation.

What to check before applying and integrating

  • Country of business registration

Confirm whether a contract is possible on the basis of a Korea-registered business

  • Sales channel

The integration approach and priority differ depending on your mix of online sales channels, such as your own store, open marketplaces, or a mobile app

  • Product categories handled

Advance confirmation is needed on whether your products fall under categories restricted by BLIK's merchant policy

  • EU regulatory compliance

Confirmation is needed on compliance with EU payment regulations such as PSD2 and SEPA (see official sources below)

Settlement currency, cycle, and refund terms

Funds from BLIK transactions are generated in Polish zloty (PLN), which Hecto Financial receives locally, converts, and settles to the Korean merchant in a single currency chosen under contract from USD, KRW, or JPY. Since Poland is not part of the eurozone, it is important to make the exchange-rate application point and settlement cycle clear at the contract stage. Refunds are processed by canceling the original transaction, and under EU consumer protection rules, Polish consumers can exercise a 14-day withdrawal right after an online purchase, so please have a return and refund operation in place in advance.

Poland BLIK Payment FAQ

QCan we enter the Polish market with card payments alone, without BLIK?
This is hard to recommend. BLIK's share of online payments in Poland is estimated to have grown to around 70%, so offering cards alone risks losing a significant share of consumers at checkout. It is common to make BLIK the default and add cards and wallets as complementary options.
QThe consumer pays in PLN, but what currency will we be settled in?
Consumer payment and Hecto Financial's receipt both take place in Polish zloty (PLN), after which the funds are converted and the Korean merchant is settled in whichever of USD, KRW, or JPY was chosen under contract. Since settlement is not made in PLN as-is, exchange-rate terms need to be confirmed at the contract stage.
QCan this be adopted without a local corporation in Poland?
Integrating through Hecto Financial can sometimes allow a contract on the basis of a Korea-registered corporation. However, support availability varies by industry and transaction structure, so confirmation through a consultation is needed.
QWhat restrictions must be confirmed before signing a contract?
You must confirm BLIK's operator's industry restriction policy, merchant account eligibility requirements, and dispute-handling procedures before signing a contract.
