Discover is a US-based card network that also includes the Diners Club network, and it effectively has no local issuance base in Poland. In the Polish market it should be approached as a complementary method for capturing transactions from visitors and expatriates holding cards issued abroad, such as in the United States, and this page sets out the judgment criteria from that perspective.
Payments by Polish consumers are standardized around BLIK and Visa/Mastercard debit, so a Discover card rarely comes out of a local wallet. The real demand for this method lies elsewhere — expatriates, international students, and business or leisure travelers using Discover or Diners Club cards issued in the United States and elsewhere, paying for Poland-related products or on a Korean merchant's global store. Given the steady flow of visitors to cities such as Warsaw and Krakow, a business with any share of foreign customers has good reason to consider whether to accept it.
If you run an English-language store selling tourism, accommodation, or ticketing, or a digital service that also serves global customers, not supporting Discover means outright payment failure for those cardholders. Conversely, if you serve only local Polish consumers, this is a lower priority, so put BLIK and card wallets in place first and consider this only afterward.
When a holder of a foreign-issued Discover or Diners Club card enters their card details, the payment is approved through Discover's international network. Transactions within Europe may be subject to Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) and 3DS procedures under PSD2, while cards issued outside the region follow the authentication policy of the issuer. Funds generated in Polish zloty (PLN) based on the Poland store are received by Hecto Financial, converted, and then settled to the Korean merchant.
Integrating through Hecto Financial lets a Korea-registered corporation consider adopting Discover payments without a separate local contract in Poland. Actual support availability and terms (settlement cycle, fees, currency options) vary by the merchant's industry and transaction volume, so confirmation with Hecto Financial's sales team is required before signing a contract.
※ This section describes the general support process and does not guarantee actual integration availability for any specific merchant. Please confirm the exact scope of support and fees through a consultation.
Confirm whether a contract is possible on the basis of a Korea-registered business
The integration approach and priority differ depending on your mix of online sales channels, such as your own store, open marketplaces, or a mobile app
Advance confirmation is needed on whether your products fall under categories restricted by Discover's merchant policy
Confirmation is needed on compliance with EU payment regulations such as PSD2 and SEPA (see official sources below)
As with other methods, funds from Discover transactions are received by Hecto Financial in Polish zloty (PLN), converted, and then paid to the Korean merchant in whichever of USD, KRW, or JPY was chosen under contract. Given that these are foreign-issued cards, chargeback procedures follow the issuer's rules, and EU consumers may separately be entitled to a 14-day withdrawal right, so it is easier to manage refunds under a single unified policy rather than splitting the process in two.
Hecto Financial's team will work with you to review a payment-method mix suited to the Polish market.
