Trustly is an open-banking account-transfer PSP operated by Sweden's Trustly Group AB, which started in the Nordics and now covers banks across Europe. For Finnish consumers already used to bank-link payment, it requires no new habit.
Trustly is an open-banking PSP that delivers the checkout flow of choosing a bank and approving via banking authentication through a single integration. For Finnish consumers, already used to account-based payment through bank-link payment (verkkomaksu), this is a familiar experience; the difference for merchants is that instead of setting up individual links with each bank, one brand can cover Finland's major banks.
It's particularly effective for customer segments with low card ownership or usage, and for industries such as travel, ticketing, and high-value retail that need immediate confirmation of funds received. A2A payment as an umbrella method is covered separately on the Pay by Bank page, and Finland's own bank-link tradition is covered on the Online Banking Finland page.
When the shopper selects Trustly at checkout and chooses their bank, that bank's authentication screen is invoked, and once the shopper approves with their banking credentials, a transfer to the merchant is executed immediately from their account. The bank authentication step satisfies SCA (strong customer authentication) requirements. Hecto Financial receives the transferred funds in euros (EUR), converts them, and settles with the merchant in Korea in the contracted currency—USD, KRW, or JPY.
Integrating through Hecto Financial lets a merchant based in Korea consider accepting bank-transfer payments from Finnish customers without signing a direct merchant agreement with Trustly. Bank coverage and industry policy need to be confirmed as of the time of integration.
※ This section describes the general integration process and does not guarantee that a specific merchant can actually integrate. Please confirm exact coverage and fees through consultation.
Confirm whether a contract is possible on a Korea-based business basis
Integration method and priority differ depending on your mix of online channels—own site, marketplaces, mobile apps, etc.
Check in advance whether your products fall under restricted categories per the Trustly operator's merchant policy
Confirm compliance with EU payment rules such as PSD2 and SEPA (see official sources below)
Funds transferred via Trustly are received by Hecto Financial in euros (EUR) and, after conversion, settled with the merchant in Korea in whichever currency—USD, KRW, or JPY—was designated under contract. Because it's transfer-based, there are no chargebacks, but a refund must be executed as a return transfer when a Finnish consumer exercises their 14-day withdrawal right, so confirm the refund process and turnaround time before contracting.
Hecto Financial's team will help you review the right combination of payment methods for the Finnish market.
