In cashless Finland, where the share of mobile commerce keeps growing, Google Pay is a wallet that removes the card entry step for Android and Chrome users. Here are the criteria for judging which merchants stand to benefit.
Finland is a Nordic cashless market where cash payments have become rare, and the environment for accepting card-based mobile wallets is well established. Google Pay works by tokenizing cards stored on Android devices and in the Chrome browser, so rather than replacing Finland-specific methods like bank-link payments and invoicing, it operates at the level of improving the card payment experience. Device unlock authentication doubles as SCA (Strong Customer Authentication) compliance, reducing drop-off at the payment step.
For mobile commerce with a confirmed share of Android users, in-game/in-app payments, or repeat-purchase services, this is worth considering as a complement to card payments. Pairing it with Apple Pay for iPhone customers and with bank-link payments, the local traditional method, can reduce coverage gaps.
When the consumer taps the Google Pay button at checkout and authorizes via device unlock (biometrics or PIN), the stored card is transmitted as a token, and card network approval proceeds. This device authentication often doubles as compliance with PSD2's SCA requirement, minimizing additional authentication pop-ups. The approved amount is collected by Hecto Financial in euros (EUR), converted, and settled to the Korean merchant in USD, KRW, or JPY as contracted.
Through integration with Hecto Financial, a Korean corporation can consider accepting Google Pay without a separate contract with Google or a Finnish local acquirer. Support conditions vary depending on the environment where the button is exposed (web/app) and on business category and transaction volume, so confirmation is needed before contracting.
※ This section describes general support procedures and does not guarantee actual integration availability for any specific merchant. Please consult with us to confirm the exact scope of support and fees.
Confirm contract eligibility for Korea-based merchants
The integration method and priority vary depending on your online sales channel mix, such as owned storefronts, marketplaces, or mobile apps
Advance confirmation is needed as to whether your products fall under restricted categories per Google Pay's merchant policies
Confirmation is needed as to whether EU payment regulations such as PSD2 and SEPA are followed (see official sources below)
Google Pay transaction amounts are collected by Hecto Financial in euros (EUR); after conversion, they are settled to the Korean merchant in a single currency—USD, KRW, or JPY—as selected in the contract. Refunds are processed as a cancellation to the original card, and since Finnish consumers can also exercise the EU-wide 14-day withdrawal right, be sure to check the return/cancellation flow together with the timing of settlement deductions.
Hecto Financial's team will work with you to review the right combination of payment methods for the Finland market.
