paysafecard is a 16-digit PIN prepaid voucher operated by the Paysafe Group. Because consumers enter a PIN purchased in advance from a retailer at checkout, no card or bank account is needed at all. This guide sets out the integration criteria from the perspective of Korean merchants selling games and digital content into Portugal.
Portugal is a market where cash-based payment channels connect naturally with online spending, and paysafecard provides that bridge in the form of a prepaid voucher. Because consumers pay by entering a 16-digit PIN they bought with cash at a retailer, online payment is possible without a bank account or card, and the method shows particular strength for game and digital content payments across Europe.
It suits merchants selling game items, esports content, streaming, and digital goods that have a meaningful share of younger customers or customers without a card. Because it is centered on small-value payments, it pairs well with microtransaction-style products rather than high-value items, and its prepaid nature also brings the operational benefit of low chargeback exposure.
The consumer enters a paysafecard PIN purchased in advance from an offline retailer or an online channel at checkout, and payment is confirmed instantly once the amount is deducted from the voucher balance. Because it is based on a prepaid balance, there is no concept of a declined authorization or arrears, and if the balance is insufficient, multiple PINs can be combined to pay. Since it may be used by minors, sales policies for age-restricted products need to be put in place alongside it.
Through Hecto Financial, Korean digital content businesses can consider accepting paysafecard users across Europe, including Portugal, with a single integration. Support for industries outside games and content, and the actual terms (settlement cycle, fees, currency options), need to be confirmed through consultation.
※ This section describes the general integration process and does not guarantee that any specific merchant can actually integrate this method. Please consult with us to confirm the exact scope of support and applicable fees.
Confirm whether a contract is available for merchants registered in Korea
The integration approach and priority differ depending on your online sales channel mix, such as your own store, open marketplaces, or a mobile app
Confirm in advance whether your category falls under the merchant policy restrictions of the PaySafeCard operator
Confirm compliance with EU payment regulations such as PSD2 and SEPA (see the official sources below)
Amounts deducted from a voucher are likewise collected by Hecto Financial in euros (EUR), then, after currency conversion, settled to the Korean merchant in whichever of USD, KRW, or JPY was chosen in the contract. As a prepaid method, chargeback risk is low, but there can be constraints on returning a refund to the original payment method, so the refund path (balance return, alternative payout, etc.) and processing timeframe should be confirmed before signing the contract.
Hecto Financial's team can work with you to review the right combination of payment methods for the Portuguese market.
