Riverty is a pay-later payment specialist belonging to the German media group Bertelsmann, rebranded from AfterPay (Europe) in 2022. It is an option for merchants looking for an invoice and installment method rooted in Germany rather than a global brand.
For German consumers, receiving an invoice (Rechnung) and paying after checking it is a long-standing fundamental of online shopping. Riverty specializes in this pay-later invoicing and installment payment, and its background as part of the Bertelsmann group acts as a trust factor in the German-speaking market.
It suits product categories with mid-to-high cart values, such as home and living or fashion, where many customers want to pay after checking the goods. It overlaps with Klarna in demand, but differs in its German-speaking-market-focused operations and emphasis on receivables management capability.
When the consumer selects pay-later at checkout, Riverty runs a real-time credit assessment and issues an invoice, and the consumer pays within the set deadline or follows an installment schedule. Merchant proceeds are confirmed separately from the consumer's actual payment and enter the Hecto Financial receipt process in euros (EUR).
Since pay-later methods involve screening factors based on product category and return rate, it is advisable to share your product lineup early, along with whether a contract based on a Korea-based entity is possible.

Confirm contract eligibility for Korea-based merchants
The integration method and priority differ depending on your online sales channel mix, such as your own storefront, open marketplaces, or mobile apps
Advance confirmation is needed to check whether your category falls under Riverty's restricted merchant policies
Confirm compliance with EU payment regulations such as PSD2 and SEPA (see official sources below)
The starting point for settlement is not the consumer's actual payment date but the merchant amount confirmed in euros (EUR); Hecto Financial receives and converts this and pays it out in whichever of USD, KRW, or JPY is the contract currency.
Because it is pay-later, returns and partial returns come with invoice adjustments, so your return policy, including the 14-day right of withdrawal, needs to align with the invoice cancellation process.
The Hecto Financial team will work with you to review the right combination of payment methods for the German market.
