Google Pay is a wallet that stores card details as a token to enable fast payment on Android devices and in Chrome. In Germany, which has a higher share of Android usage than many other major European markets, it is considered a way to reduce drop-off in mobile web checkout.
Germany has a relatively high share of Android devices even among European markets, so relying solely on an iPhone-centered wallet strategy can miss a significant share of mobile customers. Since Google Pay launched in Germany in 2018, it has expanded its supporting banks and fintechs, and its strength lies in completing payment with a stored token, without any card entry.
It suits businesses for whom reducing input steps directly translates into conversion, such as in-game or in-app payments and mobile-web-focused storefronts. It is common to adopt it alongside Apple Pay to cover both device ecosystems.
When a consumer taps the Google Pay button, a token for the stored card is transmitted, and device unlock authentication (biometric or PIN) serves as the response element for PSD2's Strong Customer Authentication (SCA). The approved amount is received by Hecto Financial in euros (EUR) and moves on to the conversion and settlement stage.

Transactions arise in euros (EUR) and are received by Hecto Financial; after conversion, the Korean merchant is paid a settlement amount in whichever of USD, KRW, or JPY was chosen at the contract stage.
Refunds are processed against the original tokenized transaction, so please be sure to include the possibility of a German consumer's 14-day right-of-withdrawal request in your customer service policy.
Hecto Financial's team will work with you to review the payment method mix best suited to the German market.
