Apple Pay is a wallet payment method that replaces card information with a token stored on the device and approves payment with Face ID or Touch ID. Since its launch in Germany in late 2018, support has expanded to major banks and savings banks alike, establishing it as a mobile payment path for iPhone users.
The tokenization structure, which never leaves the card number with the merchant, fits well with German consumers' sensitivity to personal data. Germany has traditionally been a conservative market for card usage itself, but Apple Pay has steadily grown its share of mobile checkout by offering low payment friction based on device authentication.
It is a high priority for fashion and digital content sellers with a high share of mobile traffic, or for businesses concerned about drop-off in Safari web checkout. However, because it relies on registering a card, combining it with other methods is necessary to also cover customers who prefer bank transfers or buy-now-pay-later options.
When a consumer taps the Apple Pay button in Safari or an app and approves with Face ID or Touch ID, a device token is transmitted instead of the actual card number. Because this biometric authentication satisfies PSD2's Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) requirement, payment completes without an additional authentication step, and the approved amount in euros (EUR) proceeds to settlement after being received by Hecto Financial.
This can be considered on the basis of a Korean corporation, and since web payments involve Apple-side technical requirements such as domain verification, you will receive procedural guidance during the integration process.
※ This section describes the general support process and does not guarantee that integration will be possible for any specific merchant. Please confirm the exact scope of support and fees through a consultation.
Confirm whether a contract is available under a Korean business registration
The integration method and priorities differ depending on your online sales channel mix, such as an owned storefront, open marketplaces, or a mobile app
Check in advance whether your products fall under a restricted category under Apple Pay's merchant policies
Confirm compliance with EU payment regulations such as PSD2 and SEPA (see official sources below)
Transaction amounts approved through Apple Pay are received by Hecto Financial in euros (EUR), and after a conversion process, the Korean merchant is paid in whichever of USD, KRW, or JPY was designated in the contract.
Refunds are processed as a card refund against the original transaction, and for sales to German consumers, a refund policy reflecting the EU's 14-day right-of-withdrawal regulation is required.
Hecto Financial's team will work with you to review the payment method mix best suited to the German market.
