Google Pay is Google's wallet service that pays with a tokenized card on Android devices and in Chrome. In France, where card is the default, it is considered as a way to offer one-click payment from a saved card without card entry, lifting mobile web conversion.
The share of mobile purchases in French e-commerce has steadily grown, but the payment method itself still defaults to CB-centric cards. Google Pay tokenizes that same card and stores it on Android devices and in the Chrome browser, so it's more accurate to see it as a way for merchants that already accept card payments in France to reduce mobile checkout friction. Device authentication (biometrics, screen unlock) being used for PSD2 SCA compliance also favors conversion.
It suits merchants with a mass-market consumer base with high Android share, mobile-web-heavy traffic, and low-value, repeat-purchase product categories. It's common to consider it together with Apple Pay to cover iOS customers as well.
When a consumer selects the Google Pay button, the payment is composed from a tokenized card stored on their account or device, and approved via device unlock or biometric authentication. A token is exchanged rather than the actual card number, and PSD2's SCA requirement is met through a combination of device authentication and issuer authentication, resulting in less authentication drop-off than direct card entry.
This can be considered as adding a Google Pay button on top of Hecto Financial's existing card integration. Requirements differ by channel — web versus app — so it's best to consult based on your traffic mix (mobile web versus app share).
※ This section describes the general support process and does not guarantee actual integration eligibility for any specific merchant. Please confirm exact coverage and fees through consultation.

Since a Google Pay transaction is in substance a tokenized card payment, the funds arise in euros (EUR); Hecto Financial receives them, converts them, and settles to the Korean merchant in whichever of USD, KRW, or JPY is selected in the contract. The settlement cycle follows the contract terms, and refunds — including those tied to the 14-day withdrawal right — are processed as a cancellation of the original transaction.
Hecto Financial's team will help you review the right combination of payment methods for the French market.
