As the cash-on-delivery (COD) habit familiar to Czech consumers — paying only after receiving the goods — declines, Klarna's pay-later and installment options are increasingly filling that gap online. Here are the adoption criteria for a Korean merchant and the settlement and risk structure.
The Czech Republic is a mature e-commerce market generating annual sales in the range of €6 billion, but for a long time it retained the cash-on-delivery (COD) practice of paying only after inspecting the goods, and that share has been steadily shrinking. Klarna, which holds a banking license in Sweden, uses pay-later invoicing and installment options to push the moment of payment back, satisfying this "receive it, then pay" mindset online — making it a good fit for merchants looking for a payment experience to replace COD.
It's especially effective in fashion, footwear, and accessories categories with frequent returns, and in electronics and furniture categories where a high average order value makes the payment burden a barrier to purchase. When consumers can pay after receiving the goods or split the payment, cart abandonment tends to fall and average order value tends to rise, while Klarna manages consumer credit risk at its own underwriting stage.
When a consumer selects Klarna at checkout, a quick credit check runs and either a pay-later invoice or installment payments are approved; choosing the instant-transfer option (Pay Now) completes the payment right away via bank transfer. PSD2's Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) procedure applies to the online payment process. Hecto Financial receives the merchant's share of the funds, converts them, and settles in whichever currency — USD, KRW, or JPY — was set under the contract.
Because pay-later and installment methods involve consumer credit underwriting, contract requirements are more detailed than for standard cards. Through Hecto Financial, on the basis of your Korean corporation, you can confirm together whether Klarna acceptance for the Czech Republic is available, along with industry restrictions and settlement terms.

Confirm compliance with EU payment regulations such as PSD2 and SEPA (see official sources below)
Even with a pay-later structure, settlement to the Korean merchant does not wait for the consumer to complete payment — it proceeds according to the contract terms, and the currency is not CZK but whichever of USD, KRW, or JPY was selected, paid out after Hecto Financial receives and converts the funds. Because of the pay-later structure, returns and partial refunds also involve adjusting the amount invoiced to the consumer, so be sure to confirm the return flow under the EU's 14-day right of withdrawal and the invoice-adjustment process before signing the contract.
Hecto Financial's dedicated team will help you review the right combination of payment methods for the Czech market.
