Venmo is a US-only P2P money transfer and wallet service operated by PayPal, and it appears at online checkout as the Pay with Venmo button. From the perspective of a Korean merchant selling to US consumers, here's what customer segments respond to this method and what to confirm when integrating through Hecto Financial.
In the United States — the world's largest e-commerce market, valued in the trillions of dollars annually — cards and digital wallets are at the center of online payments, and account-based payments are also growing quickly. Venmo grew out of the everyday money-transfer culture of younger generations and reportedly has over 60 million users, and online checkout through Pay with Venmo continues to spread steadily.
Thanks to the social, transfer-app-style user experience, it pairs well with merchants selling through mobile-first channels to a fashion, beauty, ticketing, or subscription audience skewed toward customers in their 20s and 30s. For product categories with lower price points and higher purchase frequency, a checkout flow that ends with just an in-app approval — no card number entry — helps reduce cart abandonment.
When a consumer selects Pay with Venmo at checkout, they're either switched into the Venmo app or receive an approval-request notification, and the transaction completes once they choose and approve using their balance, linked bank account, or card in the app. Card-funded transactions are protected by network tokenization, so the actual card number is never passed to the merchant, and the approved proceeds are collected by Hecto Financial in USD, converted, and paid out in the currency set under the contract.
Korean merchants can consider accepting Pay with Venmo through a single Hecto Financial contract, without a US entity or US bank account. However, since Venmo is a service exclusive to US-based users, there's no benefit to exposing it to customers outside the US, and support terms vary by category and transaction volume, so confirmation with the sales team is needed before contracting.

Confirm contract eligibility for businesses registered in Korea
Integration method and priority vary depending on your mix of online sales channels — owned site, marketplace, mobile app, and so on
Advance confirmation is needed on whether your category falls under Venmo's merchant restrictions
Confirmation is needed on compliance with US payment and foreign exchange regulations, including federal and state consumer protection rules and card network rules (see official sources below)
Proceeds paid by US consumers are collected by Hecto Financial in USD, then converted and paid out to the merchant in one of USD, KRW, or JPY as selected under the contract. Settlement cycle follows the contract terms, and refunds go back to the consumer's Venmo account based on the original transaction — so it's safer to confirm the exchange-rate treatment at the time of refund and the processing deadline at the contract stage.
