Google Pay is a wallet service that tokenizes cards saved to a Google account, enabling payment on the web and in apps with just a few taps. It broadly covers the US Android user base and Chrome browser users, so it's considered, alongside Apple Pay, as a key piece for completing a US-facing wallet payment setup.
In US online payments, wallet usage has steadily displaced direct card entry, and Google Pay's strength lies in how naturally it fits into Android devices and the Chrome environment. Consumers who have saved a card to their Google account once can pay on a site they're visiting for the first time without signing up or entering card details, making it a way to reduce guest checkout friction.
For a new US-facing owned storefront where first-purchase conversion matters, or a D2C brand with a high share of ad-driven traffic, the effect of reducing guest checkout drop-off can be the first benefit expected. In categories such as practical goods, electronics, and gaming, where iOS skew is less pronounced, the share of Android users is relatively higher, and in some cases Google Pay's contribution can exceed that of Apple Pay.
When a consumer taps the Google Pay button on the payment screen, a list of cards saved to their account is shown; once one is selected and confirmed, approval proceeds using the tokenized card information. Depending on the device and environment, unlock authentication may be required, and because a token is used instead of the actual card number, the risk of information exposure is reduced. Hecto Financial receives approved funds in USD, then converts them and pays out in the currency set in the contract.
Through Hecto Financial, merchants in Korea can explore accepting Google Pay on their US-facing web and app. Since there are online integration requirements such as how the web payment button is implemented and which browsers are supported, it's advisable to confirm the applicable scope with the sales team based on your storefront's technology stack.
※ This section describes general support procedures and does not guarantee actual integration eligibility for any specific merchant. Please consult with us to confirm the exact scope of support and applicable fees.
Confirm contract eligibility for businesses registered in Korea
The integration method and priority vary depending on your online sales channel mix, such as owned storefronts, open marketplaces, and mobile apps
Advance confirmation is needed on whether your business falls under a restricted category per the Google Pay operator's merchant policy
Confirm compliance with US payment and foreign exchange regulations, including federal and state consumer protection rules and card network rules (see official sources below)
Google Pay transactions also follow a clear settlement flow. Hecto Financial receives the USD funds paid by US consumers, converts them, and pays the merchant in whichever of USD, KRW, or JPY was selected under the contract. Refunds are processed to the original card linked to the token, and since the settlement cycle and fee rate are fixed in the contract terms, these should also be confirmed during onboarding discussions.
Hecto Financial's team will work with you to review the right combination of payment methods for the US market.
