🇺🇸 United States Accel Payment Integration Guide

Accel is a US PIN debit network operated by Fiserv. It is not a brand consumers choose on a checkout screen, but rather infrastructure that relays bank-to-bank debit transactions. This page is an informational guide to help Korean merchants preparing to sell online in the US correctly understand what Accel actually is and find the right path to adoption.

Where Accel fits in the US payment stack

In US e-commerce, which now exceeds $1 trillion a year, the payment brand consumers see (cards, wallets) is separate from the network routing layer behind it. Accel belongs to that back-end layer as a PIN debit network, relaying transactions on debit cards issued by participating financial institutions between banks, and it is exposed to consumers only as a small logo on the back of a card.

So adding an 'Accel payment button' to your own store is not something that can exist. The actual path to accepting US debit card customers is standard card payment integration, covering Visa, Mastercard, and Discover debit, and whether a given transaction routes through the Accel network is decided at the routing layer behind the scenes. Online transactions are sometimes routed as PINless, without PIN entry.

Basic flow of US Accel payments

When a US consumer enters debit card details to pay online, that transaction is routed through either the card network or a PIN debit network such as Accel, and is approved by the issuing bank. This routing is back-end processing invisible to the consumer and merchant, and depending on issuer policy, 3-D Secure authentication may be attached. Hecto Financial handles collection of the approved funds (USD), currency conversion, and payout in the contracted currency.

Hecto Financial's Accel coverage

From Hecto Financial's perspective, Accel is unlikely to exist as a consumer payment method that can be contracted and integrated independently. If your goal is to accept US debit card customers, the correct path is to consult on standard card payment integration, which naturally covers transactions that route through Accel as well. Please confirm the specific scope of support with the sales team.

※ This section describes the general support process and does not guarantee that integration is available for any specific merchant. Please confirm the exact scope of support and fees through a consultation.

What to check before applying and integrating

  • Business registration country

Confirm whether a contract is available for merchants registered in Korea

  • Sales channels

The integration method and priority vary depending on your online sales channel mix, such as your own store, open marketplaces, or mobile apps

  • Product categories

Check in advance whether your products fall under categories restricted by Accel's merchant policy

  • Local regulatory compliance

Confirm compliance with US payment and foreign exchange rules, including federal and state consumer protection and card network rules (see official sources below)

Settlement currency, settlement cycle, and refund conditions

Even for debit transactions routed through the Accel network, the merchant's cash flow is identical to standard card payments. Hecto Financial collects the USD paid by the US consumer, converts it, and settles it in whichever of USD, KRW, or JPY was set in the contract. Refunds are returned to the original debit card, and the cycle and fees follow the contract terms.

US Accel Payment FAQ

QCan a consumer choose Accel directly at checkout?
No. Accel is bank-to-bank routing infrastructure, so it does not exist as a consumer-facing payment button. The consumer simply enters debit card details or pays with a wallet, and whether the transaction routes through Accel is decided behind the scenes.
QWhat do I need to integrate to accept US debit card customers?
Integrating standard card payments, including Visa, Mastercard, and Discover debit, is sufficient. Most online US debit card transactions are accepted through this path, and you can add wallet payments (Apple Pay, Google Pay) as needed to broaden coverage.
QHow is the PIN handled in online transactions?
Since there is no PIN entry environment in e-commerce, transactions are sometimes routed as PINless. This is handled at the acquiring and routing layer, so there is nothing the merchant needs to implement separately.
QWhat currency is debit transaction revenue settled in?
As with standard card payments, funds are collected in USD, converted, and paid out in whichever of USD, KRW, or JPY was chosen in the contract. The routing path has no effect on the settlement currency.
