7-Eleven in Mexico is a collection channel where a reference code issued at online checkout is paid in cash at the register of a 24-hour convenience store. Here is the payment flow and adoption conditions for Korean merchants looking to capture customers without cards.
Mexico is Latin America's second-largest e-commerce market, but a significant share of adults live without a credit card, so paying for online orders in cash at an offline counter has become one pillar of the payment infrastructure. 7-Eleven Mexico is a convenience store chain operated by Iconn, densely present in northern industrial cities such as Monterrey and major metropolitan areas, with a large number of stores open 24 hours, allowing payment even late at night or in the early morning.
For digital content, game currency top-up, or mobile commerce merchants with many office worker or student customers who want to finish paying after work or at night, 7-Eleven's unique strength as a 24-hour payment touchpoint fits well. This is especially worth considering as a supplementary method to reduce checkout drop-off for storefronts and apps with a high share of customers in northern metro areas.
When a customer selects 7-Eleven payment at online checkout, a reference code containing a barcode is issued on screen and by email. Within the validity period, the customer presents the code at the register of a nearby 7-Eleven store and pays in cash; the payment data is passed to Hecto Financial, and the order is confirmed once payment is verified (typically same day to 1 business day). If payment is not made within the deadline, the order automatically expires, and because it is a cash collection method, card chargebacks do not occur.
A Korea-registered business can consider a payment mix that includes 7-Eleven cash collection through Hecto Financial integration alone, without a local contract in Mexico. However, since convenience store cash collection runs through a local collection agent network, the actual list of supported chains, along with fees and settlement cycle, needs to be confirmed with Hecto Financial before signing a contract, depending on merchant industry and transaction volume.
※ This section describes the general support process and does not guarantee actual integration eligibility for any specific merchant. Please confirm the exact scope of support and applicable fees through consultation.
Confirm contract eligibility as a Korea-registered business
Integration method and priority vary depending on your online sales channel mix, such as owned storefronts, open marketplaces, and mobile apps
Advance confirmation is needed to check whether your business falls under a category restricted by 7 Eleven's merchant policies
Confirmation is needed that you comply with Mexico's payment and foreign exchange regulations (see official sources below)
Cash paid by customers at 7-Eleven stores is received in Mexican pesos (MXN), then converted by Hecto Financial and settled to the Korean merchant in whichever of USD, KRW, or JPY was selected at contract time. The settlement cycle follows contract terms. Since cash payments cannot be refunded by handing money back at the store, a refund is processed through a separate procedure such as a transfer to the customer's account, and it is advisable to inform customers of the expected turnaround in advance.
Hecto Financial's team will work with you to review the right combination of payment methods for the Mexican market.
