paysafecard is a prepaid voucher paid for by entering a 16-digit PIN purchased in-store. Because it requires no card or bank account and exposes no personal information, it also has a distinct demand base in the UK for gaming and digital content payments.
The United Kingdom is one of Europe's largest gaming and digital content markets, with steady demand for alternatives to cards in online spending. paysafecard is a prepaid voucher from the Paysafe Group, originally launched in Austria, that works by having the consumer enter a PIN purchased at a retail outlet such as a convenience store. This absorbs consumers without cards (including minors) and users who prefer not to expose personal information.
It suits Korean merchants focused on small-ticket, digital products such as game item purchases, streaming, and online service credits, but is not well suited to selling high-value physical goods given the voucher's value limits. Because it is a prepaid method with no chargebacks, it also reduces the burden of fraudulent transactions.
When a consumer enters a paysafecard PIN purchased in-store or online at checkout, the amount is deducted from the voucher balance. Since it is not a card transaction, it completes without the UK's UK-SCA card authentication process, and because it is a prepaid balance payment, the funds are confirmed as soon as the transaction is approved. Hecto Financial collects the confirmed funds in GBP.
Through Hecto Financial, acceptance of paysafecard can be reviewed on the basis of a Korean corporate entity. Because policies for industries such as gaming and digital content, along with age-related rules, may apply, advance confirmation based on the products you sell is required.

Confirm whether a contract is available for merchants registered in Korea
The integration method and priority vary depending on your online sales channel mix, such as your own store, open marketplaces, or mobile apps
Check in advance whether your products fall under categories restricted by PaySafeCard's merchant policy
As a non-EU member state, the UK applies FCA regulation to e-money and prepaid instruments. Some industries, such as gaming, may have separate licensing requirements, so check on an industry-by-industry basis
Funds paid via paysafecard are collected by Hecto Financial in GBP, converted, and settled to Korean merchants in whichever of USD, KRW, or JPY was chosen at contract signing. As a prepaid method there are no chargebacks, but refunds carry limitations due to the nature of vouchers, so it is necessary to confirm paysafecard's policy; for digital content delivered immediately with the consumer's consent, an exception to the UK's 14-day cancellation right may apply, so the terms notice should be designed to state this clearly.
The Hecto Financial team will work with you to review the right combination of payment methods for the UK market.
