Google Pay is Google's wallet service, offering one-click payment with saved cards on Android apps and the Chrome web browser. In the United Kingdom, where wallet payments are commonplace, it is considered — alongside Apple Pay — one of the two default options for mobile checkout.
UK e-commerce is a mobile-first market where a large share of orders happen on mobile, and a checkout that requires re-entering card details every time is a real drop-off factor. Google Pay tokenizes cards saved to a Google account, letting shoppers complete payment with a single confirmation on Android apps or the Chrome web browser anywhere, and its impact is consistently strong among UK consumers who are already used to wallet payments.
Even in a UK market with a high share of iPhone users, Android users still number in the tens of millions. Apple Pay alone, without Google Pay, leaves the checkout experience lagging for Android customers, so adopting both wallets as a pair is the standard setup.
When a consumer taps the Google Pay button, they select one of the cards saved to their account and the payment goes through immediately. A token is passed instead of the actual card number, and depending on the UK's UK-SCA (Strong Customer Authentication) requirements, additional device unlock or biometric authentication may be required. Hecto Financial collects the approved funds in GBP and carries them through to the settlement process.
Korean merchants can review this through Hecto Financial on the basis of a Korean entity, provided the underlying card acceptance is already in place. Requirements and fee terms for each integration channel — Android app, mobile web, and so on — should be confirmed through consultation before signing a contract.

Confirm whether a contract is available on the basis of a Korean business registration
The integration method and priority vary depending on your online sales channel mix — owned storefront, marketplaces, mobile app, and so on
Check in advance whether your product category falls under restricted industries per the Google Pay operator's merchant policy
As a non-EU country, the United Kingdom applies UK-SCA standards to card authentication. How authentication is handled for Google Pay payments needs to be confirmed at the integration configuration stage
Card funds generated through Google Pay payments are collected by Hecto Financial in GBP and, after conversion, settled to the Korean merchant in whichever of USD, KRW, or JPY is chosen in the contract. The settlement cycle follows the contract terms. Refunds are processed as cancellations of the original card transaction, and you should also run a return policy that reflects the 14-day right of cancellation under UK Consumer Contracts Regulations.
Hecto Financial's team will work with you to review the right payment method mix for the UK market.
