Discover is a US-based card network that includes the Diners Club network. It is not a card that UK consumers use day to day, so the accurate way to approach it is as a complementary method for accepting payments from visitors and residents holding cards issued abroad, such as in the US.
The United Kingdom is Europe's largest e-commerce market and the European country with the closest personal and commercial ties to the United States, yet Discover cards are almost never issued locally in the UK. The real benefit of accepting Discover, then, is not missing payments from customers holding cards issued abroad — American residents in the UK, US tourists and business travelers, and so on. It's also worth noting that affiliated network cards such as Diners Club and UnionPay are accepted together with Discover.
If the UK market is your core focus, Visa, Mastercard, and digital wallets should take priority, with Discover a reasonable next step to consider in industries with a meaningful share of US customers, such as tourism, hospitality, and education. For coverage of local UK customers, refer to wallet pages such as Apple Pay and Google Pay.
The payment process is the same as a regular card payment. Once the consumer enters their card details, authorization takes place through the Discover network, and Hecto Financial intermediates the transaction and collects the GBP funds. Domestic UK transactions may be subject to additional 3-D Secure authentication under UK-SCA (Strong Customer Authentication), but for cross-border transactions on cards issued abroad, the authentication method may vary depending on the issuer's policy.
Korean merchants can consider Discover acceptance through Hecto Financial on the basis of a Korean entity. Since this is not a high-volume method on its own, it is recommended as part of a broader card acceptance mix alongside Visa and Mastercard rather than as a standalone addition.

Confirm whether a contract is available on the basis of a Korean business registration
The integration method and priority vary depending on your online sales channel mix — owned storefront, marketplaces, mobile app, and so on
Check in advance whether your product category falls under restricted industries per the Discover operator's merchant policy
As a non-EU country, the United Kingdom enforces its own payment regulations (including UK-SCA) under the FCA and Bank of England. Card authentication requirements follow UK rules, not EU rules
Discover transaction funds are collected by Hecto Financial in GBP and, after conversion, settled in whichever of USD, KRW, or JPY was chosen in the contract. Since this is a card method, a chargeback (payment dispute) process exists, and dispute resolution can take longer for transactions on cards issued abroad. If you sell to UK consumers, be sure to also have a refund policy in place that aligns with local consumer protection rules such as the 14-day right of cancellation.
Hecto Financial's team will work with you to review the right payment method mix for the UK market.
