Google Pay is Google's wallet service that tokenizes a stored card for payment on Android devices and in Chrome. This guide is for Korean merchants looking to reduce checkout friction for Android and web customers in Sweden's mixed device ecosystem.
In Sweden, where cash is disappearing faster than anywhere else in the world, online payment is also converging toward 'payment with no typing.' Google Pay works not only on Android smartphones but also with a card saved in the Chrome browser, providing one-click card payment across mobile apps, mobile web, and desktop. In Sweden, where wallet payments are already routine, a card-entry form is itself a source of drop-off, so for any merchant that already accepts cards, adding this method alongside it has a clear benefit.
It suits businesses with a large share of Android in-app or web payments, such as gaming or subscription-based digital services, and commerce with frequent repeat purchases where a saved-card checkout experience matters. In Sweden, a common setup is to cover iOS customers with Apple Pay and cover the segment that prefers bank transfers or deferred payment with Swish and Klarna.
When a consumer taps the Google Pay button, the card saved to their account or device is passed as a token, and authorization occurs via device unlock or biometric authentication. Tokenization means the actual card number is never exposed, and PSD2's Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) requirement is satisfied through device authentication and, when needed, a 3DS2 flow. The authorized amount is received by Hecto Financial in SEK and carried forward into settlement.
Integrating through Hecto Financial lets a Korean company explore adopting Google Pay payments without a separate local contract in Sweden. Whether support is actually available, and the terms (settlement cycle, fees, currency options), vary depending on the merchant's business category and transaction volume, so confirmation with the Hecto Financial sales team is needed before signing a contract.
※ This section describes the general support process and does not guarantee that integration is actually available for any specific merchant. Please confirm the exact scope of support and fees through consultation.
Confirm whether a contract can be signed on the basis of a Korean business registration
The integration method and priorities differ depending on your online sales channel mix, such as your own site, marketplaces, and mobile apps
Check in advance whether your business falls under a category restricted by Google Pay's merchant policy
Confirm compliance with EU payment regulations such as PSD2 and SEPA (see official sources below)
The base currency for settlement is separate from the payment currency. Swedish consumers' payment amounts are received by Hecto Financial in SEK, converted, and paid to the Korean merchant in whichever single currency among USD, KRW, or JPY was selected under the contract. Refunds are processed as a cancellation of the original transaction, and given the EU's 14-day distance-selling right of withdrawal, which also applies in Sweden, it's a good idea to include the refund approval and processing turnaround time in your policy wording.
The Hecto Financial team will work with you to review the right combination of payment methods for the Swedish market.
