In Slovakia, where Android users are prevalent, Google Pay is a tokenized wallet that makes card payments simple on both mobile and the web. We outline which industries benefit most and how settlement flows when integrating with Hecto Financial.
Central and Eastern Europe, including Slovakia, is a region with a high share of Android smartphones, so among tokenized card wallets, Google Pay's potential coverage is comparatively broad. It acts as a layer that simplifies card payments—one of the pillars of online payments in Slovakia—on mobile, and supports registration of cards issued by local banks. Another advantage is that device-level biometric authentication satisfies PSD2's Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) requirement, reducing the need for extra 3DS entry steps.
The impact is greatest for low- to mid-ticket mobile shopping, in-game and in-app payments, and digital content—industries where checkout needs to be short. Factoring in one-click checkout in the Chrome browser also covers desktop purchase journeys, which is why pairing Google Pay with Apple Pay is a common combination for wallet payment options in Slovakia.
When a consumer taps the Google Pay button, authorization proceeds using the tokenized card stored on the device, and fingerprint or screen-lock authentication handles the SCA requirement. Because a token is exchanged instead of the actual card number, exposure risk is low. Hecto Financial receives the authorized euro (EUR) amount, converts it, and settles it with the Korean merchant in the contracted currency among USD, KRW, and JPY.
Since Google Pay operates on top of card payment infrastructure, applicability for Slovak transactions is reviewed within the scope of Hecto Financial's card integration. Actual support, along with the settlement cycle, fees, and currency options, varies by industry and transaction volume and must be confirmed before contracting.

Confirm whether contracting is possible on the basis of a business registered in Korea
Integration method and priority differ depending on your online sales channel mix, such as owned storefronts, open marketplaces, and mobile apps
Advance confirmation is needed on whether your category falls under Google Pay's restricted merchant policies
Confirmation is needed on compliance with EU payment regulations such as PSD2 and SEPA (see official sources below)
Google Pay proceeds from Slovak customers are received by Hecto Financial in euros (EUR), and after conversion, deposited to the Korean merchant in whichever of USD, KRW, or JPY was chosen in the contract. The settlement cycle follows the contract terms. Refunds go back to the original registered card, and it's worth reviewing refund operating policy at the contract stage with the EU's 14-day withdrawal period for distance sales in mind.
Hecto Financial's team will work with you to review the right combination of payment methods for the Slovak market.
