For Slovak consumers accustomed to online card payments, Apple Pay offers a mobile payment experience without entering card details. We outline which industries see the biggest boost in conversion, and the coverage and settlement structure when integrating with Hecto Financial.
Slovakia is a market where card payments took hold early, and online, cards form one of the two main pillars of payment alongside online banking transfers. Apple Pay is Apple's tokenized wallet layered on top of this card base, letting consumers register cards issued by Slovak banks for use on iPhone, Apple Watch, and the web. A practical benefit is that Face ID and Touch ID biometric authentication naturally satisfy PSD2's Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) requirement, reducing drop-off during checkout.
For online stores with a high share of mobile traffic, app-based subscription services, and industries like fashion and beauty where impulse-purchase journeys matter, Apple Pay's card-number-free checkout becomes a conversion-defense tool. Merchants also selling into neighboring countries such as the Czech Republic or Austria may find it worth noting that the same wallet UX can be reused without additional country-specific development.
When a customer selects Apple Pay on the payment sheet, authorization proceeds using the tokenized card information stored on the device, and biometric authentication replaces or supplements the SCA (3DS2) process. The actual card number is never shared with the merchant. Hecto Financial receives the authorized amount in euros (EUR), converts it, and settles it with the Korean merchant in the contracted currency among USD, KRW, and JPY.
Apple Pay is often activated on top of the card acquiring path rather than through a separate wallet contract, so availability for Slovakia is confirmed within the scope of Hecto Financial's integration. Support conditions (settlement cycle, fees, currency options) vary by merchant industry and transaction volume, so prior consultation is recommended.
※ This section describes the general support process and does not guarantee actual integration availability for any specific merchant. Please confirm exact coverage and fees through consultation.
Confirm whether contracting is possible on the basis of a business registered in Korea
Integration method and priority differ depending on your online sales channel mix, such as owned storefronts, open marketplaces, and mobile apps
Advance confirmation is needed on whether your category falls under Apple Pay's restricted merchant policies
Confirmation is needed on compliance with EU payment regulations such as PSD2 and SEPA (see official sources below)
Settlement starts with the euro (EUR) amount paid by the Slovak customer. Hecto Financial receives and converts it, paying the Korean merchant in whichever of USD, KRW, or JPY is specified in the contract, on a cycle set by the contract terms. Refunds go back to the original tokenized card, and given the EU consumer's 14-day right of withdrawal that applies to distance sales, it is worth communicating expected refund turnaround in advance.
Hecto Financial's team will work with you to review the right combination of payment methods for the Slovak market.
