Against this backdrop, Alipay is not a default method for local residents but rather a cross-border wallet operated by Ant Group that captures payment demand from Chinese tourists and Greater China residents. Since Bratislava sits close to Vienna and falls within Central European tourism routes, this is worth considering for merchants with a meaningful share of Greater China customers.
It suits industries where the customer's nationality determines the payment method—duty-free and souvenirs, lodging and tours, or online services targeting Greater China customers. Through the Alipay+ partner network, it can also cover users of affiliated Greater China wallets, so it's realistic to design it as a complement alongside local Slovak methods such as cards and online banking transfers.
When a consumer selects Alipay at checkout, they approve the transaction in their own Alipay app via a QR scan or in-app authentication.
