Google Pay is a wallet that tokenizes cards saved to an Android device or Chrome for one-tap payment. This guide sets out adoption criteria for merchants in Korea looking to reduce card-entry drop-off in Italy's Android-heavy mobile commerce market.
Italy's smartphone market has a high share of Android devices, making Google Pay a wallet with broad potential coverage in a market that is still transitioning from cash to card and digital payments. Once card details are saved to a device or account, subsequent payments finish in a single tap, and payment data is replaced by a token so the actual card number never reaches the merchant. The fact that biometric or device-lock authentication satisfies PSD2's Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) requirement also reduces online payment friction.
This is especially well suited to merchants in Korea with frequent, low-ticket mobile purchases, such as digital content, everyday consumer goods, and game items. The smaller the payment amount, the more a card-number entry requirement drives drop-off, and Google Pay removes that friction, keeping the repurchase cycle short.
When a shopper taps the Google Pay button and completes device authentication, the saved card is passed along as a token and the payment is authorized. Hecto Financial receives the euro (EUR) payment generated from the Italian transaction, converts it, and settles it with the merchant in Korea in whichever of USD, KRW, or JPY was selected in the contract. Depending on the issuer's policy, some transactions may still require additional 3DS authentication.
Integrating through Hecto Financial lets a Korean corporation consider accepting Google Pay without going through local procedures in Italy, with the technical scope varying by web or app integration method. The actual support conditions (settlement cycle, fees, currency options) should be confirmed with the sales team before signing a contract.

From a settlement standpoint, Google Pay does not create a separate currency flow. Hecto Financial receives and converts the euro (EUR) payment generated by the underlying card authorization, then settles it domestically in whichever of USD, KRW, or JPY is the contract currency, with the cycle following the contract terms. Refunds and chargebacks follow the underlying card network's rules directly, so the same documentation and dispute-handling processes already in place for card payments apply as-is.
