In Thai online shopping, it's common to approve payment by opening one's own bank app instead of entering a card number. This page covers the requirements and settlement structure for Korean merchants accepting online banking payments from Thai banks such as Kasikornbank, Bangkok Bank, and SCB.
Thailand is a market where payment habits centered on bank apps are well established, with mobile banking usage ranking among the highest in the world. Because credit card penetration skews toward higher-income groups, a large share of general consumers' online payments consists of transfer-type payments taken directly from a bank account. Online banking payment is a method where the consumer approves directly in the app of their primary bank, such as Kasikornbank, Bangkok Bank, or SCB, with payment made from the account balance without exposing card details.
Given the tendency of Thai consumers toward practical, balance-based spending, this method is especially suited to storefronts with a somewhat higher order value, such as electronics or tickets, that need to reach a broad base of general local customers. As an alternative payment path that reduces abandonment among customers without a credit card limit, it is recommended to configure this alongside PromptPay.
At checkout, once the consumer selects their bank, they are redirected to that bank's app or internet banking to log in and approve, and the funds are withdrawn from the account in baht (THB) immediately. Hecto Financial receives this THB payment, converts it, and settles with the Korean merchant in whichever of USD, KRW, or JPY was selected under the contract. Because authentication procedures differ by bank, check the list of supported banks and the technical documentation before integration.
Instead of signing separate payment contracts with each Thai bank, you can consider a structure where a single integration with Hecto Financial covers online banking payments from multiple commercial banks. The coverage by bank and the fee and settlement terms vary depending on the merchant's industry and scale, so prior consultation is necessary.
※ This section describes the general support process and does not guarantee actual integration eligibility for any specific merchant. Please confirm exact coverage and fees through consultation.
Confirm contract eligibility for businesses registered in Korea
The integration method differs depending on whether you are online-only or also include offline stores in Thailand
Advance confirmation is needed on whether your business falls under a restricted category under Online banking Thailand's merchant policy
Confirmation is needed on compliance with Thailand's payment and foreign exchange regulations (see official sources below)
Online banking payment funds are withdrawn from the consumer's account in baht (THB) and received locally by Hecto Financial. After currency conversion, they are settled with the Korean merchant in whichever of USD, KRW, or JPY was selected under the contract, with the settlement cycle and fee rate set according to the contract terms. Since account-transfer-type payments have no chargeback process like cards, refunds are handled as a separate return transfer, so confirm the refund operating process before signing the contract.
Hecto Financial's team will help you review the right combination of payment methods for the Thailand market.
