Thailand's smartphone market skews heavily toward Android, so Google Pay can be considered as a way to improve the convenience of card-based online payment. This page covers the coverage and settlement structure that Korean merchants serving Thai customers should check before adoption.
Most Thai consumers do mobile shopping on mid- to low-range Android smartphones, and both smartphone penetration and mobile commerce usage rank among the highest in Southeast Asia. Google Pay supports one-click payment with a pre-saved card in Chrome and Android environments, reducing the input steps for customers who hold cards. However, since the dominant payment habit in Thailand is QR transfer, Google Pay is best approached as a method that reinforces card payment conversion.
For mobile-web-focused fashion or lifestyle-goods cross-border stores serving Thai customers, or subscription-based digital services with frequent repeat payments, Google Pay can help reduce checkout abandonment by removing the need to re-enter card details. It is recommended to cover customers without cards by combining it with PromptPay or TrueMoney.
When a consumer selects the Google Pay button at checkout and approves with a card saved to their Google account, the transaction is processed in Thai baht (THB). Hecto Financial receives and converts the resulting THB funds, then settles with the Korean merchant in whichever of USD, KRW, or JPY was selected under the contract. Since this is a saved-card-based payment method, the supported card brands and identity verification flow must be confirmed before integration.
A Korean entity can consider accepting Google Pay through Hecto Financial's integration without a separate local contract in Thailand. The scope of supported cards in Thailand, conditions by payment environment such as web or app, and fee and settlement terms vary by industry and transaction volume, so please finalize these through consultation.
※ This section describes the general support process and does not guarantee actual integration eligibility for any specific merchant. Please confirm exact coverage and fees through consultation.
Confirm contract eligibility for businesses registered in Korea
The integration method differs depending on whether you are online-only or also include offline stores in Thailand
Advance confirmation is needed on whether your business falls under a restricted category under Google Pay's merchant policy
Confirmation is needed on compliance with Thailand's payment and foreign exchange regulations (see official sources below)
Funds from payments made via Google Pay are also generated in baht (THB), and the structure is such that Hecto Financial receives them in local currency, converts them, and settles with the Korean merchant in whichever of USD, KRW, or JPY was set under the contract. The settlement cycle and fees are determined by the contract terms. Refunds proceed as cancellation of the original transaction on the saved card, and card issuer processing time may add to this, so establish your customer communication standard in advance.
Hecto Financial's team will help you review the right combination of payment methods for the Thailand market.
