PayPal is a global account-based payment service that has long been used in Peru for paying and receiving funds on overseas sites. Because it links a card or balance to an account so payment can be completed with just a login, it acts for Korean merchants selling overseas as a gateway to Peru's cross-border buying segment.
Peruvian consumers' domestic payment habits center on the Yape and Plin wallets and cash payment, but overseas online purchases are a different story. Consumers reluctant to enter a local card number on foreign sites, as well as freelancers and IT workers with overseas income, have long held and used PayPal accounts. For a Korean merchant, PayPal is one of the payment gateways Peru's cross-border buying segment is most comfortable with.
It has strengths in categories already understood as overseas payments from the outset, such as digital content, direct purchases of Korean products, and global subscription services. Since buyer protection policies carry a risk of disputes and chargebacks that could translate into receivable risk, we recommend adopting it after putting shipping proof and refund policy in order.
When the consumer selects PayPal at checkout, logs into their account, and approves payment, funds are drawn from a linked card or balance and the authorization result returns in real time. Account login and PayPal's own risk screening serve as authentication, so there is no card-number entry step.
Integrating through Hecto Financial lets a Korean corporation consider adopting PayPal payments without a separate local contract in Peru. Actual support availability and terms (settlement cycle, fees, currency options) vary by the merchant's industry and transaction volume, so confirmation with the Hecto Financial sales team before contracting is required.
※ This section describes a general support procedure and does not guarantee actual integration availability for a specific merchant. Please confirm exact support scope and fees through consultation.
Confirm whether contracting is available on the basis of a domestic (Korean) business
The integration method and priority vary depending on your mix of online sales channels — owned store, marketplaces, mobile app, and so on
Confirm in advance whether your category falls under restricted industries in PayPal's merchant policy
Confirm compliance with Peru's payment and foreign exchange regulations (see official sources below)
Funds routed through PayPal follow the same final settlement structure. Hecto Financial collects the Peru payment amount and, after currency exchange, pays it out in the currency chosen in the contract from USD, KRW, or JPY; settlement in the local currency (PEN) is not offered. In the event of a dispute or refund, both PayPal's policies and Hecto Financial's operating policies apply together.
The Hecto Financial team will help you review a payment method mix suited to the Peru market.
