CABAL is a domestic Argentine card network issued mainly by cooperative and mutual-credit financial institutions. This guide is for merchants looking to accept this card network online.
In Argentina, where e-commerce continues to grow steadily, payment coverage is not complete with international brand cards alone. CABAL is a domestic card network that originated in Buenos Aires on the basis of cooperative banking institutions; it issues both credit and debit cards and also has a presence in neighboring countries such as Uruguay and Paraguay. In areas outside major cities, or among customers who use mutual-credit institutions, a CABAL card is sometimes the primary payment method.
For online stores targeting a nationwide customer base, especially in categories with repeat purchases such as everyday goods or subscription services, whether you accept domestic card networks can affect repeat-purchase conversion. CABAL is best approached as a complementary method that captures this long-tail customer segment.
Approval completes once a consumer enters their CABAL credit or debit card number at checkout and passes the issuer's online authentication (a 3-D Secure-type method). The subsequent flow of funds proceeds in order: receipt locally in ARS, conversion, and settlement in the contract currency (a choice of USD, KRW, or JPY).
Whether CABAL can be accepted may depend on the composition of Hecto Financial's local acquiring partners, so merchants who need this network should confirm availability and the conditions for debit versus credit transactions in a prior consultation.

The integration method and priorities differ depending on your online sales channel mix, such as an owned storefront, open marketplaces, or a mobile app

Confirm compliance with Argentina's payment and foreign exchange regulations (see official sources below)
Settlement can be understood in three steps: the local consumer pays in pesos, Hecto Financial receives and converts those funds from ARS, and the merchant then receives payment in whichever of USD, KRW, or JPY was set in the contract. Refund requests are processed as either a cancellation of the original authorization or a partial refund, and are subject to the network's processing schedule. Given the fluid nature of foreign exchange regulation in this market, conversion terms should be based on what is confirmed as of the time of contracting.
Hecto Financial's team will work with you to review the payment method mix best suited to the Argentine market.
