Comercial Mexicana was a long-beloved supermarket brand in Mexico, but through a group restructuring in the 2010s, a large share of its stores were sold to Soriana, and the remaining business continued under the La Comer group. When considering it as a cash collection channel, you must first verify the currently valid scope of stores.
Mexico's retail industry has been reshaped by major mergers and acquisitions over the past decade, and Comercial Mexicana was one of the names at the center of that. At its peak it was a nationwide supermarket chain, but most of its stores were sold to Soriana, and the remaining business was converted into new brands such as La Comer and Fresko. As a collection channel, then, Comercial Mexicana may exist as a legacy brand name that remains within the payment network, so the actual store coverage where payment is possible must be verified before contracting.
For merchants targeting middle-class grocery shopping demand in central Mexico, the store network that continued under the La Comer group can serve as a touchpoint, but you need to account for the possibility that the channel name and the actual store brand no longer match. If you need collection at the same supermarket group, it is safer to review it together with successor channels such as Soriana.
Where the Comercial Mexicana channel is still valid within the payment network, a customer is issued a reference code when placing an online order and pays in cash at a partner store checkout. The order is finalized once the collection confirmation reaches Hecto Financial, which typically takes same day to 1 business day. However, because the channel name and the actual stores may differ after the brand restructuring, the list of stores where payment is actually possible must be confirmed before integration.
Through Hecto Financial, Korean merchants can set up a Mexican cash collection channel without a direct local contract, but since Comercial Mexicana is a channel with a history of brand restructuring, its current validity and store coverage within the collection agency network must be separately confirmed at the contracting stage. It is recommended to also discuss alternative or complementary channel configurations in consultation.
※ This section describes a general support process and does not guarantee actual integration availability for any specific merchant. Please confirm exact coverage and fees through consultation.
Confirm contracting eligibility as a Korea-based business
Integration approach and priority vary depending on your mix of online sales channels, such as owned storefronts, marketplaces, and mobile apps
Advance confirmation is needed on whether your business falls under a restricted category per Comercial Mexicana's merchant policy
Confirmation is needed on compliance with Mexico's payment and foreign exchange regulations (see official sources below)
Cash collected through this channel is likewise received in MXN and, after a conversion process, settled in whichever of USD, KRW, or JPY is designated in the contract. There is no direct peso settlement option, and the settlement cycle is a matter of contract terms. Refunds are handled through a separate refund process rather than a return of cash in-store.
Hecto Financial's team will help you review a payment method mix suited to the Mexican market.
