Alipay is not a payment method for local Lithuanian consumers, but a cross-border option that lets you accept the wallets of Chinese-speaking customers visiting or residing in Lithuania as-is. Here are the industries and conditions where acceptance makes sense.
Alipay, operated by Ant Group, is used in Europe as a payment method for Chinese tourists and Chinese-speaking residents, and has almost no overlap with the everyday payment habits of typical Lithuanian consumers. The real target is Chinese-speaking visitors flowing into the capital Vilnius — home to a UNESCO World Heritage old town — plus Chinese-speaking customers staying in the country for study or work assignments. An added benefit is that, through the Alipay+ partner network, payments from users of several other Asian partner wallets can also be accepted.
Adoption makes practical sense only for merchants with confirmed revenue from Chinese-speaking travelers — duty-free, souvenirs, accommodation, tours — or for online sales targeting the Chinese-speaking community within Lithuania. For a general storefront aimed at local consumers, the priority should be setting up bank links and card wallets first.
When a consumer scans a QR code in the Alipay app or completes payment via in-app approval on the online checkout page, the amount is deducted from their wallet balance or linked account, and the merchant's transaction is confirmed in euros (EUR). Hecto Financial receives this EUR amount, converts it, and settles it to the Korean merchant in whichever currency — USD, KRW, or JPY — was set under the contract.
Integrating through Hecto Financial lets a Korean company explore Alipay acceptance without a local contract in Lithuania. However, because this is a cross-border method aimed at Chinese-speaking customers, the actual benefit varies widely by industry and product category, so please confirm support conditions through consultation along with evidence of revenue from your target customers.
※ This section describes the general support process and does not guarantee actual integration availability for any specific merchant. Please confirm exact coverage and fees through consultation.
Confirm whether contracting is possible for merchants registered in Korea
Integration method and priority vary depending on your online sales channel mix — owned storefront, marketplaces, mobile apps, etc.
Check in advance whether your products fall under restricted categories according to the Alipay operator's merchant policy
Confirm compliance with EU payment regulations such as PSD2 and SEPA (see official sources below)
From the merchant's perspective, Alipay transactions are recorded as euro (EUR) revenue, and Hecto Financial receives and converts the funds before settling them domestically in whichever currency — USD, KRW, or JPY — was specified under the contract. Refunds are returned to the consumer's wallet based on the original transaction, and how exchange rate fluctuations are handled should be confirmed at the contract stage. Because EU consumer protection rules such as the 14-day right of withdrawal may apply to sales within the EU, it is safer to clearly disclose refund policy even for transactions aimed at tourists.
Hecto Financial's team will work with you to review the right combination of payment methods for the Lithuania market.
