🇩🇰 Denmark MobilePay Payment Integration Guide

MobilePay is a local payment app used daily by most Danish adults. Following its 2022 merger with Norway's Vipps, it now operates as a brand under Vipps MobilePay AS; this page covers adoption conditions from the perspective of the local Danish app.

When to consider MobilePay payments in Denmark

The two pillars of online payments in Denmark are the national card Dankort and the payment app MobilePay. Of the two, MobilePay is a de facto standard app installed by most of the adult population, having started as phone-number-based money transfer and expanded into e-commerce payments. Following its 2022 merger with Norway's Vipps, it is now operated by Vipps MobilePay AS, but the MobilePay brand is still what Danish consumers see. Explanation from the perspective of the merged entity and the broader Nordic integration is covered separately on the Vipps MobilePay page.

With low friction all the way to payment completion, it is especially effective in industries with high mobile share—subscription services, delivery and ticketing, and low-to-mid-priced everyday consumer goods. Danish consumers show a clear preference for familiar in-app approval over a checkout that requires entering card details, so the more revenue you generate from local consumers, the higher this should rank in your adoption priorities.

Basic flow of MobilePay payments in Denmark

Selecting MobilePay at checkout invokes the MobilePay app on the consumer's smartphone; once the consumer confirms the amount and approves it in the app, payment completes through the card or account linked to the app. This in-app authentication naturally satisfies PSD2's SCA (Strong Customer Authentication) requirement. Hecto Financial collects the approved amount in DKK and, after conversion, settles it to the Korean merchant in the selected currency—USD, KRW, or JPY.

Hecto Financial's MobilePay coverage

A Korean company can consider a structure for adding a MobilePay payment button to its online checkout through Hecto Financial, without a local contract in Denmark. That said, because this is an app-based payment method, the supported channels (web/app), industry restrictions, and fees and settlement cycle vary by merchant conditions, so prior consultation is needed.

※ This section describes the general support process and does not guarantee that a specific merchant can actually integrate this method. Please confirm the exact coverage and fees through consultation.

What to check before applying and integrating

  • Business registration country

Confirm contract eligibility as a business registered in Korea

  • Sales channels

Integration method and priority vary depending on your online sales channel mix—owned store, open marketplaces, mobile app, etc.

  • Product categories

You need to check in advance whether your products fall under categories restricted by MobilePay's operator merchant policy

  • EU regulatory compliance

Confirm compliance with EU payment regulations such as PSD2 and SEPA (see official sources below)

Settlement currency, settlement cycle, and refund terms

Settlement starts from the Danish krone (DKK). Hecto Financial collects in DKK the proceeds the consumer paid via MobilePay, converts it, and pays out to the Korean merchant in one of USD, KRW, or JPY selected in the contract. Refunds are processed through the original transaction route, and we recommend designing your refund processing timeline with the possibility of the 14-day right of withdrawal that applies to EU distance sales in mind.

Denmark MobilePay payment FAQ

QAre MobilePay and Vipps MobilePay different services?
They are services of the same company (Vipps MobilePay AS). It operates under the MobilePay brand in Denmark and Finland and the Vipps brand in Norway; see the Vipps MobilePay page for guidance from the perspective of the merged entity.
QDoes DKK get deposited into the Korean merchant's account?
No. DKK is the currency Hecto Financial collects, and domestic settlement takes place, after conversion, in the currency selected in the contract—USD, KRW, or JPY.
QDo I need a Danish entity or local account?
Under Hecto Financial's integration structure, a contract based on a Korea-registered business is sometimes possible, so a separate local entity is not necessarily a prerequisite. That said, terms vary by industry and transaction volume, so confirmation through consultation is needed.
QCan I adopt only card payments or only MobilePay?
Since Denmark is a dual-pillar market where the Dankort card and the MobilePay app are used together, if your customer base is broad, we recommend offering both paths in parallel.
