PayPal is an account-based wallet whose European services are operated by its Luxembourg entity, PayPal (Europe) S.à r.l., licensed by the CSSF. In Denmark, where national payment methods run strong, PayPal's role is closer to a cross-border trust device for buying from overseas merchants.
Danish consumers' everyday payments are effectively split between the Dankort card and the MobilePay app, so PayPal is not the top local method. However, things are different when buying from an overseas online store. There is demand for paying with an already-held PayPal account instead of leaving card details on an unfamiliar foreign site, and buyer protection policies lower the psychological barrier to cross-border purchases. This is exactly where a Korean merchant should consider PayPal.
For businesses selling 'products shipped from Korea' to Danish customers—K-beauty, fashion, hobby and collector goods, and the like—a PayPal button, separate from local methods, acts as a safety net that protects checkout completion rates. As the share of local Danish consumers grows, it becomes natural to put Dankort and MobilePay in the lead and position PayPal as a cross-border complement.
When the consumer logs in via the PayPal button and approves the payment, the amount is processed using the card or balance linked to their PayPal account. The combination of wallet login and device authentication satisfies PSD2's SCA (Strong Customer Authentication) requirement. Hecto Financial collects the approved amount in DKK, converts it, and settles it in the currency selected in the contract—USD, KRW, or JPY.
A Korea-registered business can consider offering a PayPal button through Hecto Financial, and a practical advantage is being able to reuse the same integration across multiple European markets, including Denmark. Industry restrictions, account requirements, and fees and settlement terms need to be confirmed before contracting.

Confirm contract eligibility as a business registered in Korea
Integration method and priority vary depending on your online sales channel mix—owned store, open marketplaces, mobile app, etc.
You need to check in advance whether your products fall under categories restricted by PayPal's operator merchant policy
Confirm compliance with EU payment regulations such as PSD2 and SEPA (see official sources below)
Proceeds from Danish customers' PayPal payments are generated in DKK; Hecto Financial collects them and, after conversion, settles them domestically in the selected currency—USD, KRW, or JPY. Because PayPal runs its own buyer dispute process separately, we recommend an operating framework that handles the EU's 14-day right of withdrawal and PayPal dispute handling as distinct tracks.
Hecto Financial's team will work with you to review the right combination of payment methods for the Danish market.
