Riverty (formerly AfterPay Europe) is a service specialized in invoice-based pay-later, where the customer receives goods first and pays by invoice. This guide covers the requirements and settlement structure for merchants considering adoption to target Belgian customers accustomed to Benelux pay-later culture.
Riverty is a pay-later service belonging to Germany's Bertelsmann group, which, until 2022, operated under the name AfterPay providing invoice-based pay-later for Benelux e-commerce in the Netherlands, Belgium, and beyond. The approach of receiving goods before paying by invoice is accepted by debit-oriented Belgian consumers as a safeguard that lets them check before they pay.
It suits industries where the receive-then-pay experience drives conversion, such as fashion and shoes with high return rates, or new brands with a large share of first-time customers. Compared with global BNPL providers, its distinguishing feature is a tight focus on the Benelux and German-speaking regions; for alternatives that also include installment and pay-now options, compare with the Klarna page.
At the time of payment, the consumer does not pay the amount; instead, Riverty issues an invoice for orders that pass its pay-later review. The consumer pays the invoice amount within a set deadline after receiving the goods, and Riverty handles management of non-payment and delinquency. From the merchant's perspective, the euro proceeds of approved orders are received and settled through Hecto Financial, so it is important to understand that the timing of consumer payment and the timing of settlement are separate.
Integrating through Hecto Financial lets a Korean corporation consider adopting Riverty pay-later payments without a separate local contract in Belgium. The pay-later review criteria, accepted industries, invoice language coverage (Dutch, French), and settlement cycle, fees, and currency options should be confirmed with Hecto Financial's sales team before contracting.
※ This section describes general support procedures and does not guarantee actual integration eligibility for any specific merchant. Please confirm exact coverage and fees through consultation.
Confirm whether a contract is possible on the basis of a Korean business entity
The integration method and priority differ depending on your online sales channel mix, such as your own mall, open marketplaces, or mobile apps
Advance confirmation is needed as to whether your category falls under restricted industries per the Riverty operator's merchant policy
Confirm compliance with EU payment regulations such as PSD2 and SEPA (see official sources below)
The settlement currency structure is the same as for other methods. Hecto Financial receives funds generated in euros (EUR) and, after conversion, pays the Korean merchant in USD, KRW, or JPY as specified in the contract, on a cycle set by the contract terms. Because invoice pay-later returns and withdrawals often occur before the consumer has paid, confirming the invoice cancellation process under Riverty's policy for cases where the EU's 14-day withdrawal period overlaps with the invoice payment deadline reduces the customer service burden.
Hecto Financial's team will work with you to review a payment method mix suited to the Belgian market.
