Apple Pay is a payment method that approves a card tokenized and stored on an iPhone using Face ID or Touch ID biometric authentication, and in Brazil, consumers register Elo, Visa, and Mastercard cards issued by major banks. It can be considered as an online checkout option targeting owners of premium devices.
Pix accounts for more than about 40% of online payments in Brazil, but card payments remain a major segment, driven in part by demand for installment payments (parcelamento). Since launching in Brazil in 2018, Apple Pay has expanded its support to cards from major banks and fintechs, and the fact that iPhone users represent a relatively high-purchasing-power consumer segment in Brazil is a key basis for considering adoption.
It is suitable for merchants in premium electronics, fashion, and travel, where both average order value and iPhone user share tend to be high, and for mobile app services aiming to reduce drop-off by removing card number entry from checkout. Because approval is completed with a single biometric authentication in Safari on the web and in in-app checkout, the benefit is clear for owned online stores looking to improve mobile conversion.
When a consumer taps the Apple Pay button at checkout, the card tokenized and stored on the device is displayed, and the payment is approved via Face ID or Touch ID authentication. Since a device token is transmitted instead of the actual card number, the merchant does not store the original card information, which also has the effect of reducing the burden of additional authentication such as 3-D Secure. The approved proceeds are received by Hecto Financial in BRL, then converted and settled to the merchant in whichever currency is specified in the contract among USD, KRW, or JPY.
Through Hecto Financial integration, a Korean merchant can consider accepting Apple Pay for Brazil without a separate contract with Apple. Since this method operates within Safari and native iOS apps, it is best to first check your own store's browser and app support before setting adoption priority.

Confirm whether a contract is possible based on a Korean business entity
The integration method and priority vary depending on your online sales channel mix, such as your own store, open marketplaces, or mobile apps
You need to check in advance whether your category falls under an industry restricted by Apple Pay's merchant policy
You need to confirm compliance with Brazil's payment and foreign exchange regulations (see official sources below)
Card sales approved through Apple Pay are received in BRL and, after conversion, paid out in whichever currency selected at contract time among USD, KRW, or JPY. Refunds are processed by canceling the tokenized original transaction and returned to the consumer's card, and given that Brazil's CDC guarantees a 7-day right of withdrawal, it is advisable to inform customers of the expected timeframe for the refund to reflect on their card.
The Hecto Financial team will help you review the right combination of payment methods for the Brazilian market.
