eftpos is a domestic debit card network jointly operated by Australia's banking sector, and it has traditionally grown around in-store, in-person payments. Its acceptance as an online checkout method is still in a rollout phase, so this page sets out what to check from a conservative point of view.
Many Australian consumers carry dual-network debit cards that combine the domestic eftpos network with an international network (Visa or Mastercard debit). eftpos has long operated primarily around in-person payment infrastructure, and its online domain — including eftpos online routing (least-cost routing) — has only recently begun to spread, so it is worth conservatively verifying whether it is truly established as an independent online checkout method that consumers actively choose. In Australian online transactions today, the same card being processed through the international network debit rail is the common case.
For a Korean merchant preparing to sell online into Australia, it is therefore safer to first secure baseline acceptance of international-network debit and credit cards along with wallets such as Apple Pay and Google Pay, and only then additionally consider the fee-saving effect of eftpos online routing, rather than adopting eftpos on its own. Please verify with Hecto Financial before contracting exactly which form of eftpos support (routing versus direct acceptance) is actually offered.
When eftpos is processed online, the consumer pays with a debit card and the transaction is routed through the eftpos network for approval. However, since a substantial share of Australian online debit transactions is processed via the international network, the actual scope of eftpos online acceptance depends on the integration configuration, and additional authentication such as 3-D Secure may apply to online card transactions. Hecto Financial receives the approved transaction funds in AUD, converts the currency, and settles in the contracted currency of USD, KRW, or JPY.
Since online acceptance of eftpos is still in a rollout phase, it is especially important to verify in advance which form (online routing or direct acceptance) is supported through Hecto Financial's integration. Please confirm the actual scope of support through consultation, including eligibility to contract on a Korea-registered-company basis and fee and settlement conditions.

Confirm eligibility to contract on a Korea-registered-business basis
The integration method and priority vary depending on your online sales channel mix, such as owned mall, open marketplace, or mobile app
Check in advance whether your products fall under a category restricted by eftpos's merchant policy
Confirm compliance with Australia's payment and foreign exchange regulations (see official sources below)
Proceeds from Australian sales, including transactions routed through eftpos, are received in AUD and, after a currency conversion process, paid out to the Korean merchant in whichever of USD, KRW, or JPY was selected under the contract. Because of the nature of debit transactions, consumer dispute and chargeback procedures follow the relevant scheme's rules, so it is advisable to confirm the refund processing deadline and dispute response procedure together with the settlement terms at the contracting stage.
