Google Pay is a wallet that offers one-click payment on web and in Android apps using cards saved to a Google account. This guide covers the adoption points for this method, which together with Apple Pay forms the two pillars of wallet acceptance in online sales in Australia.
In Australia, where card penetration is high, online conversion rates hinge on how frictionlessly consumers can use the cards they already hold, and the share of payments made through digital wallets keeps growing year on year. Google Pay tokenizes cards saved to a Google account and Android device so they can be pulled up with a single click at Chrome web and app checkout, and most cards issued by major Australian banks are eligible for registration. Sites with a lot of guest purchases see a particularly large benefit from completing checkout without entering a card number.
With a meaningful share of Android users, relying on Apple Pay alone — which is iOS-only — misses half of wallet demand. For industries with a lot of repeat purchases, such as open marketplaces, ticketing, and subscriptions, or for advertising-driven commerce with heavy mobile web traffic, we recommend making the Google Pay button a default element on checkout.
When a consumer selects the Google Pay button, they choose a payment method from the cards saved to their account and approve it with device unlock or biometric authentication. The transaction is processed using tokenized card information, and 3-D Secure authentication may be added depending on the issuer's policy. Hecto Financial then receives the funds in AUD, converts the currency, and settles in the contracted currency of USD, KRW, or JPY.
A Google Pay button can be included in Hecto Financial's Australia-facing payment configuration and reviewed under a Korea-registered-business contract. Where it is surfaced (web or app), the range of supported cards, and fee and settlement cycle terms vary by merchant configuration, so please confirm these before contracting.

Confirm eligibility to contract on a Korea-registered-business basis
The integration method and priority vary depending on your online sales channel mix, such as owned mall, open marketplace, or mobile app
Check in advance whether your products fall under a category restricted by Google Pay's merchant policy
Confirm compliance with Australia's payment and foreign exchange regulations (see official sources below)
The settlement structure follows the same track as card payments. Hecto Financial receives the Australian consumer's payment amount in AUD, converts the currency, and pays the merchant in whichever single currency of USD, KRW, or JPY was specified in the contract. Refunds are returned to the original transaction card, and disputes and chargebacks follow card scheme procedures, so it is advisable to confirm the processing deadline and fee terms together at the contracting stage.
Hecto Financial's team can work with you to review the right combination of payment methods for the Australian market.
