🇨🇦 Canada PayBright Payment Integration Guide

PayBright was a homegrown Canadian BNPL provider that started in Toronto, but it was acquired by US-based Affirm in 2021 and is now operated as part of the integrated Affirm Canada brand. This page is for businesses that searched for payment adoption under the name PayBright, and covers the current state of the integration and how to review adoption under Affirm.

When to consider PayBright payments in Canada

Newly adopting PayBright as a standalone payment method is not appropriate at this time. Since Affirm acquired PayBright in 2021, merchant and consumer services have been gradually folded into Affirm Canada. If you are considering BNPL in Canada, it is more accurate to confirm terms under the successor brand, Canada Affirm payment integration.

Most Canadian online stores that previously supported PayBright have since switched to Affirm checkout, so new contracts for Korean merchants will also proceed under Affirm. If the PayBright name still appears in existing materials or solution documentation, understand it as a former brand of the same business.

Basic flow of PayBright payments in Canada

Since the integration, the payment experience is identical to Affirm's. When a consumer selects installment payment at checkout, it is approved after online review and agreement to the terms, and the merchant's proceeds are received by Hecto Financial in CAD, converted, and settled in whichever of USD, KRW, or JPY was agreed in the contract. A separate integration process under the former PayBright name is not something to consider.

Hecto Financial's PayBright coverage

Integrating through Hecto Financial lets a Korean company explore adopting PayBright payments without a separate contract with a local Canadian entity. However, since PayBright is a brand that has been folded into Affirm Canada, the actual consultation and contracting proceed under Affirm, and the terms (settlement cycle, fees, currency options) are also fixed in the Affirm contract.

※ This section describes the general support process and does not guarantee that integration is available for any specific merchant. Please confirm the exact scope of support and fees through consultation.

What to check before applying and integrating

  • Business registration country

Confirm contract eligibility as a Korean business

  • Sales channel

The integration approach and priority differ depending on your mix of online sales channels, such as your own store, open marketplaces, or a mobile app

  • Product categories handled

Confirm in advance whether your category falls under PayBright's restricted merchant policies

  • Local regulatory compliance

Confirm compliance with Canada's payment and foreign exchange regulations (see the official sources below)

Settlement currency, settlement cycle, and refund conditions

Settlement for new transactions since the integration follows the Affirm contract terms. The structure is: the consumer pays in CAD, Hecto Financial receives and converts the funds, and payment is made in whichever of USD, KRW, or JPY was selected at contract signing. Terms formerly under the PayBright name do not apply to new contracts, so confirm the settlement cycle and refund deadlines under Affirm's terms.

Adopting it as a standalone method is not recommended. Since it was folded into Affirm Canada after Affirm's acquisition in 2021, review it under Canada Affirm payment integration instead.

The old brand may still appear in some materials or screens during the transition, but new integrations and contracts proceed under the Affirm name.
QWhat are the settlement currency and cycle?
As with Affirm, Hecto Financial receives the funds in CAD and settles in whichever of USD, KRW, or JPY was selected at contract signing, with the cycle following the contract terms.
QWhat other BNPL options are there to consider in Canada?
Besides Affirm, Block's Afterpay offers four interest-free installments in Canada. Consider running them alongside each other depending on your transaction value and product category.
