Samsung Pay is a tokenized card wallet operated by Samsung Electronics, and Switzerland is one of the few markets in Europe, alongside Spain, Sweden, and the UK, where the service is available. Here is a summary of the payment flow for Galaxy smartphone and watch users and the conditions to confirm before adopting it.
Switzerland has high acceptance of both online card payments and wallet payments, making it one of the few markets where Samsung Electronics operates Samsung Pay in Europe. In a market already served by TWINT, Apple Pay, and Google Pay, Samsung Pay holds a distinct position as a card wallet for Galaxy device users. The European service works by tokenizing registered cards and approving them at in-app and web checkouts.
For electronics, gaming, and lifestyle commerce businesses with a confirmed share of Android — particularly Galaxy — device users among their customers, it is worth adding to the payment options. However, rather than treating it as a standalone pillar in Switzerland, it is more realistic to keep TWINT and card payments as the base and add wallet methods to reinforce them.
When a consumer selects Samsung Pay, the card registered in Samsung Wallet is transmitted as a token and approved through biometric authentication such as a fingerprint. The 3-D Secure 2-based strong customer authentication (SCA) requirement demanded by the card network is satisfied through this wallet authentication. The CHF amount is then collected and converted by Hecto Financial and settled to the Korean merchant in the contracted currency of USD, KRW, or JPY.
Through Hecto Financial, Samsung Pay integration can be considered on a domestic (Korean) contract basis without a local process in Switzerland. However, whether it is supported can vary depending on card network and industry conditions, so confirmation before signing a contract is a prerequisite.
※ This section describes general support procedures and does not guarantee actual integration eligibility for any specific merchant. Please confirm the exact scope of support and fees through consultation.
Confirm whether a contract is possible on the basis of a domestic (Korean) business registration
The integration approach and priority vary depending on the composition of online sales channels, such as owned storefronts, open marketplaces, and mobile apps
Advance confirmation is needed as to whether the products fall under industries restricted by Samsung Pay's operator merchant policy
Switzerland is a non-EU regulatory jurisdiction overseen by FINMA, and Samsung Pay's supported cards and service scope vary by market, so you need to confirm the current state of the Swiss service at the time of adoption (see official sources below)
The currency in which the payment occurs (CHF) and the currency the merchant is settled in are separate. Hecto Financial collects and converts the Swiss franc amount, after which the merchant is settled in one of USD, KRW, or JPY as set under contract. Refunds are processed to the original card linked to the token, and the timing they take effect varies by issuer.
Hecto Financial's team will work with you to review the right combination of payment methods for the Swiss market.
