Domestic account payments in Hungary are handled in forint (HUF) by AFR, the instant payment network the central bank MNB made mandatory for all banks. The SEPA on this page is a rail separate from that domestic network. It connects the euro transfer schemes SCT and SCT Inst, governed by the EPC, to the checkout via PSD2 payment initiation (PIS), making it a one-off "Pay by Bank" transfer that the payer approves on the spot in their banking app, and it does not work from a HUF account. In practice it is a method with real presence in transactions with corporate customers who deal in euro accounts and in cross-border trade.
Hungary participates in SEPA, but the starting point for evaluation is that its national currency is not the euro but the forint (HUF). Real-time payment demand within Hungary is served by AFR (Azonnali Fizetési Rendszer), the domestic instant payment system that the central bank, MNB, requires all banks to support, and open-banking-based SEPA Credit Transfer / Instant Credit Transfer operates separately from this, working only with euro-denominated accounts. This does not apply to the large majority of everyday Hungarian consumers, for whom cards and HUF account transfers form the two main pillars of payment, but it is effective for the subset of customers who hold euro accounts or for business-to-business transactions.
For that reason, in Hungary it is realistic to review it while assuming scenarios where the paying party operates a euro account, such as euro invoice-based B2B transactions or euro-billed subscriptions, rather than consumer commerce. Its character as a push transfer approved directly by the payer for each transaction also fits invoice payment practice well.
The scenario in which this method is used most naturally in Hungary is the online payment of euro-denominated B2B invoices. When the counterparty's representative opens the payment link on the invoice and selects the bank holding the company's euro account, the payment initiation service (PISP) raises an approval request in that bank's channel with the amount, payee, and even the reference number filled in, and the representative confirms payment with authentication alone. Unlike an account transfer where the IBAN is copied out by hand, amount and reference errors are structurally blocked, and with an SCT Inst connection the deposit is confirmed within seconds (unsupported combinations on the standard SCT schedule), reducing the burden of reconciling receivables. Hecto Financial converts the EUR collected this way and settles it in the contracted currency among USD, KRW, and JPY.
Even for Hungary, SEPA is a euro-account-based scheme, so when consulting with Hecto Financial, you should first confirm your billing currency design and the applicable customer segment (customers holding euro accounts). Contract eligibility and terms for domestic corporations vary by industry and transaction structure.

From the payee's perspective, the advantage of this payment is certainty. Because it is a transfer the payer pushed themselves with bank authentication, there is no card chargeback route, and no scheme right to demand an unconditional refund for eight weeks as with SEPA Direct Debit attaches either. Hecto Financial converts the EUR that arrives and pays out in the USD, KRW, or JPY currency chosen at contract, on the contracted cycle. The point to watch runs in the opposite direction. A completed transfer is a final payment, so returning an overpayment, settling a canceled contract, and, if consumer transactions are in the mix, responding to the 14-day right of withdrawal must all be handled by the merchant sending a new transfer to the other party's account.
