NAPAS is the national payment switch that Vietnamese bank cards are commonly issued on. This page covers the payment flow when a Korean merchant accepts NAPAS domestic debit cards, Hecto Financial's receipt and settlement structure, and what to confirm before signing a contract.
In Vietnam, domestic debit cards issued on the National Payment Corporation's NAPAS network far outnumber international brand cards, and payment infrastructure such as the national QR standard VietQR is also built around NAPAS. In a market where e-commerce grows more than 20% every year, accepting NAPAS cards is effectively a prerequisite for reaching customers based on local bank accounts, since Visa and Mastercard alone don't cover them.
NAPAS card support has an especially large effect for categories such as mass consumer goods, digital content, and travel bookings, where a high share of customers lack international cards and the payment barrier drives conversion. Conversely, if you focus on overseas-based Vietnamese customers or high-value transactions, pairing it with global cards and wallets works better — see the comparison table below to design the right mix.
When a consumer enters a NAPAS debit card number and passes OTP authentication from the issuing bank, VND is immediately withdrawn from their bank account. Hecto Financial receives this amount in local currency, and after conversion, settles with the Korean merchant in whichever currency was contracted — USD, KRW, or JPY. Details such as differences in bank-specific authentication screens should be confirmed in the technical documentation before integration.
NAPAS card integration is provided within the scope of the Hecto Financial contract, so the Korean merchant does not need to negotiate individually with Vietnamese banks. Approved industries and settlement cycle, fees, and currency options vary by transaction volume and product category, so confirmation through consultation before signing is required.
※ This section describes a general support procedure and does not guarantee that any specific merchant can actually integrate. Please confirm exact coverage and fees through consultation.
Confirm contract eligibility as a Korea-registered business
Integration method differs depending on whether you are online-only or also have physical stores in Vietnam
Check in advance whether your products fall under Napas card's restricted-category merchant policies
Confirm compliance with Vietnam's payment and foreign exchange regulations (see official sources below)
NAPAS card payments are fully authorized and cleared in VND, and the Korean merchant does not receive VND directly. Hecto Financial receives the amount locally, converts it, and pays out in whichever of USD, KRW, or JPY was chosen in the contract, with the settlement cycle and fees following the contract terms. Refunds are processed as a reversal to the original card account, so it's a good idea to confirm each bank's processing timeline before signing.
Hecto Financial's dedicated team will help you review a payment method mix suited to the Vietnamese market.
