Apple Pay lets iPhone and Apple Watch users authorize card payments with biometric authentication, and it became available in Vietnam starting in 2023. This guide covers the integration structure, settlement method, and pre-check items for a Korean merchant to accept Apple Pay payments from Vietnamese customers.
Vietnamese e-commerce continues to grow at over 20% a year, and smartphone-based cashless payment is quickly taking hold in urban areas. Since launching in Vietnam in 2023, Apple Pay has expanded its links with major local bank cards, making it worth considering if you're targeting the high-spending urban iPhone user segment. Because it replaces card details with a device token, it can reduce both checkout drop-off and fraud exposure at the same time.
It suits categories with a high average order value and a large share of iOS users, such as premium electronics, luxury goods, or subscription services, as well as Korean commerce sites looking to reduce drop-off on Safari web checkout. That said, Android and wallet payment users still form the majority across Vietnam as a whole, so we recommend pairing it with MoMo and NAPAS cards to fill coverage gaps.
When a customer selects Apple Pay at checkout and approves with Face ID or Touch ID, the card token stored on the device processes the payment via web, in-app, or NFC. The amount is charged in VND, and Hecto Financial receives it in local currency, then converts and settles with the Korean merchant in the chosen currency — USD, KRW, or JPY. The range of supported cards in Vietnam should be confirmed before integration.
Through a contract with Hecto Financial, a Korean merchant can consider whether Apple Pay support for Vietnam is available. Supported card networks, approval criteria by industry, and settlement cycle, fees, and currency options are determined case by case, so consultation before adoption is required.
※ This section describes a general support procedure and does not guarantee that any specific merchant can actually integrate. Please confirm exact coverage and fees through consultation.
Confirm contract eligibility as a Korea-registered business
Integration method differs depending on whether you are online-only or also have physical stores in Vietnam
Check in advance whether your products fall under Apple Pay's restricted-category merchant policies
Confirm compliance with Vietnam's payment and foreign exchange regulations (see official sources below)
Since Apple Pay itself is simply an authentication method for card payments, the amount clears in VND just like a transaction on the linked card. Hecto Financial receives and converts this amount, depositing it with the Korean merchant in the contracted currency — USD, KRW, or JPY — with the cycle and fee rate set by the individual contract. Refunds are also processed as a reversal to the original card, so allow for the card issuer's processing timeline.
Hecto Financial's dedicated team will help you review a payment method mix suited to the Vietnamese market.
