This guide examines where Google Pay can contribute to online conversion in the Android-dominant Philippine market. It covers the payment flow based on cards saved to a Google account, the settlement structure when integrating with Hecto Financial, and points to note regarding service coverage.
The Philippines is a mobile-first market where the vast majority of smartphone users have Android devices, and online shopping happens far more through mobile browsers and apps than on PC. Google Pay completes checkout in a few taps using a card already saved to the consumer's Google account, which is effective at reducing the drop-off that happens when customers give up entering a card number on a small screen. However, support for some features in the Philippines, such as offline NFC payments, may be limited, so it's realistic to evaluate this with a focus on online payment use.
This is especially worth considering for categories where checkout drop-off drives revenue, such as mobile-web-centric storefronts, subscription-based digital services, and gaming or content businesses with heavy in-app payment. Given the relatively thin card-holding population in the Philippines, it's advisable to combine this with wallet and cash channels and position it as a convenience feature for cardholding customers specifically.
When the consumer taps the Google Pay button on the storefront, a list of cards saved to their Google account appears, and the payment completes once the consumer selects and confirms a card. Because the card number is never entered directly, this reduces input errors and drop-off on mobile screens. Hecto Financial receives the transaction proceeds in Philippine peso, converts the currency, and settles with the Korean merchant in whichever of USD, KRW, or JPY is specified in the contract.
Through Hecto Financial, you can consider Google Pay online payments (web and app) via a single integration. The range of card brands accepted and the conditions for applying the service within the Philippines may change over time, so confirmation before signing a contract is needed.
※ This section describes the general support process and does not guarantee that a specific merchant can actually be integrated. Please confirm the exact scope of support and fees through consultation.
Confirm contract eligibility as a business registered in Korea
The integration method differs depending on whether the business is online-only or also includes physical stores in the Philippines
Advance confirmation is needed as to whether the category falls under merchant restrictions set by Google Pay's operator
Confirmation is needed as to whether the business complies with the Philippines' payment and foreign exchange regulations (see official sources below)
Amounts paid via Google Pay are received by Hecto Financial in PHP; rather than receiving that PHP directly, the Korean merchant is settled after conversion into whichever of USD, KRW, or JPY was selected in the contract. The settlement cycle and fees are set by the contract terms. Refunds are processed as a reversal to the original card used for payment, and given the nature of international card transactions, it may take several days for the refund to appear on the customer's account.
Hecto Financial's team will work with you to review the payment method mix that fits the Philippine market.
