Honduras is a Central American country that uses the lempira (HNL); its everyday economy relies heavily on cash transactions and remittances from family members living in the United States, and e-commerce is still at an early stage. This page is prepared for Korean merchants who want to consider adopting PayPal with realistic expectations.
Consumers who can pay online in Honduras are limited mainly to the urban middle class and above who hold bank cards and international payment methods; across the market as a whole, cash remains dominant. In this environment, PayPal is not a mass-market method but a channel for reaching the smaller segment capable of buying from abroad, and that segment's purchasing power is underpinned by close remittance and migration ties with the United States. Given that HNL is not a PayPal transaction currency and that approval rates can vary, it is reasonable to set modest initial targets.
Rather than large-scale marketing, a low-cost expansion approach works well: merchants already operating across the Spanish-speaking Latin American market can add Honduras to their list of countries they ship to or serve, opening PayPal as a payment method at the same time. Lifestyle and beauty items positioned as substitutes for US brands make for a reasonable entry category.
The payment process itself is the same standard PayPal flow used in other markets. Once the consumer logs into their account and approves the payment using their balance or a linked card, the result is returned in real time; transactions in Honduras are typically approved in USD terms, and the consumer's card issuer converts the charge to HNL. Card-routed approvals may involve online authentication from the international network, after which Hecto Financial receives the proceeds and carries out conversion and settlement.
Integration for Honduras can also be explored on the basis of a Korea-based contract, with no local entity or registration required. Because it is an early-stage market, terms may need to be negotiated without a strong transaction-volume track record, so presenting operating results from similar markets (Central America and the Caribbean), if available, during the consultation helps in setting terms.
※ This section describes the general support process and does not guarantee that a specific merchant can actually integrate. Please confirm exact coverage and fees through a consultation.

The lempira does not enter the settlement process at any point. Payment proceeds from Honduran consumers are received by Hecto Financial, converted, and paid out in the currency designated in the contract — USD, KRW, or JPY; fluctuations in the HNL exchange rate are separate from the merchant's settlement amount. Refunds are returned to the consumer's account through the original PayPal channel, and in an early-stage market it is advantageous to track refund-rate data separately for use when renegotiating terms.
