Android has a high share of Costa Rica's mobile market, giving Google Pay broader effective coverage among wallet-type payments. This guide lays out the decision criteria and settlement structure for merchants looking to offer Google Pay on web and in-app in this market, where local card penetration is solid.
Costa Rica, one of the more digitally advanced markets in Central America, has active mobile finance usage — enough that SINPE Móvil account transfers have become part of daily life — and, following the general Latin American trend, Android makes up the majority of the smartphone market. Google Pay tokenizes the locally issued cards held by this Android user base and lets them pay with a single tap in Chrome web and in-app checkouts.
The first candidates to consider are merchants selling low-cost, repeat-purchase products to Costa Rica — digital content, games, subscriptions, and travel activity bookings — where manual card number entry is a major cause of mobile drop-off, and the checkout screen and receipt messaging should be localized for this Spanish-speaking market.
Tapping the Google Pay button at checkout brings up a screen to select a card saved to the account, and once approved via device authentication (biometric or unlock), the transaction is approved using the tokenized card information. Hecto Financial receives the transaction proceeds in CRC, converts them, and settles to the merchant in whichever of USD, KRW, or JPY is the contract currency.
Through Hecto Financial, a Korean company can consider accepting Google Pay for Costa Rica without a separate local contract. Since the actual terms (fees, settlement cycle, industry review) vary by merchant, confirmation with the sales team is needed before contracting.

Confirm whether a contract is available for merchants registered in Korea
The integration method and priority vary depending on your online sales channel mix, such as owned mall, open marketplaces, or mobile apps
Check in advance whether your products fall under categories restricted by Google Pay's merchant policy
Confirm compliance with local regulations such as the payment system rules of the Central Bank of Costa Rica (BCCR) (see official sources below)
The receiving currency before conversion is the colón (CRC). The received CRC goes through a conversion process and is settled in whichever of USD, KRW, or JPY the merchant designated in the contract, with the cycle and fee rate following the contract terms. Refunds are processed as a cancellation on the original card and are reflected to the consumer in CRC, so confirm in the contract how any difference from exchange rate movements is handled.
Hecto Financial's team will work with you to review the right combination of payment methods for the Costa Rican market.
