Barbados is a leading tourist destination in the eastern Caribbean, operating the Barbados dollar (BBD) at a fixed exchange rate of 2 BBD = 1 USD, in a market where bank card usage is widely established. This page covers what merchants in Korea selling to Barbadian consumers should check before adopting PayPal.
With a steady inflow of British and North American tourists, Barbados is among the Caribbean markets where card payments are widespread, making it a good fit for PayPal checkout, which relies on cards as a funding source. Thanks to the fixed exchange rate, consumer resistance to USD-denominated prices also tends to be low. That said, given the characteristics of a small-country market, the local account's PayPal feature scope may not be complete, and it is reasonable to estimate overall payment demand conservatively.
In practice, it makes sense for a direct-to-consumer store or marketplace seller operating for English-speaking consumers to add one more international payment brand on top for Barbadian customers who already use cards. It suits fashion and accessories aimed at honeymooners and cruise travelers, or lower- to mid-priced repeat-purchase items.
PayPal payments by Barbadian consumers typically work by linking a card to the account in advance and completing payment at checkout with just a login-based approval. Since BBD is not a PayPal transaction currency, order amounts are generally authorized in USD, and when funds are drawn from the linked card, the card network's tokenization and online authentication procedures also run behind the scenes. As soon as approval is granted, Hecto Financial receives the transaction and moves it into the collection and settlement stage.
A single Hecto Financial contract lets a merchant in Korea consider accepting PayPal payments from Barbadian consumers, with no separate local market entry procedure assumed. Since PayPal's support terms are not identical across Caribbean countries, the terms and fees applicable to transactions bound for Barbados should be finalized during contract negotiation.

Confirm whether contracting is possible on a Korea-based business basis
The integration method and priority differ depending on the mix of online sales channels, such as a direct-to-consumer store, marketplace, or mobile app
Advance confirmation is needed on whether your industry falls under a restricted category per PayPal's merchant policy
Confirmation is needed on compliance with Barbados's payment and foreign exchange regulations (see official sources below)
Settlement proceeds in the order of "consumer payment in Barbados → collection by Hecto Financial → currency conversion → payout in the contracted currency," and the merchant designates one of three currencies, USD, KRW, or JPY, at the time of contracting. There is no option to settle in BBD. If a refund occurs, the amount is returned along the original path to the consumer's PayPal account, and the deduction method for already-settled transactions follows the refund clause in the contract.
The Hecto Financial team will help you review the right combination of payment methods for the Barbadian market.
