That said, in North Macedonia and other Western Balkan markets, the receiving function of local PayPal accounts has historically operated in a limited way, so it is reasonable to take a conservative view of account penetration and usage volume.

There is also a naming point worth noting. In English-language commerce, both 'Macedonia' and 'North Macedonia' are used interchangeably, so using the official country name (North Macedonia) consistently in your store's country selection list, shipping policy, and customer service copy directly affects trust with local customers. It's a good approach to start by testing response with digital goods and mid-to-low-priced consumer goods, where the burden of a denar (MKD)-denominated ticket price is small.

When a North Macedonian consumer chooses PayPal, the payment proceeds through account login, selection of balance or a linked card, and approval, with European accounts subject to additional authentication under PSD2's SCA (Strong Customer Authentication). Settlement of North Macedonian transactions is not 'denar settlement.'
