WeChat Pay is the payment feature built into Tencent's WeChat messenger, and in Singapore it is considered a channel for capturing spending from mainland Chinese visitors and residents who live within the WeChat ecosystem. Here's the payment flow, settlement structure, and terms to check when integrating through Hecto Financial.
Singapore, where a majority of the population is ethnically Chinese and tourism and business travel to and from mainland China are frequent, sees a steady flow of visitors and residents who use WeChat as their daily platform. WeChat Pay is the payment feature built into WeChat, operated by Tencent; for Chinese consumers, having chat, mini-programs, official accounts, and payment all connected within a single app feels natural. Rather than a primary method for local Singaporean consumers, this is a payment method best approached as a channel for capturing spending from mainland Chinese visitors.
This suits Korean merchants targeting mainland Chinese tourists or Greater China customers who communicate via WeChat—for example, travel products, duty-free-linked commerce, or online stores running a Chinese-language customer service desk. Being able to tie official account and mini-program marketing directly into the payment flow is an advantage cards don't offer.
When a consumer scans a QR code in the WeChat app or approves payment through a checkout screen within a mini-program or official account, funds are debited from their WeChat balance or a linked account. On the merchant side, the transaction is generated in SGD; Hecto Financial receives it, converts it, and settles it to the Korean merchant in whichever currency—USD, KRW, or JPY—was chosen in the contract. Conversion to RMB on the consumer side is handled by WeChat Pay.
Through integration with Hecto Financial, Korean corporations can consider accepting WeChat Pay without a direct cross-border contract with Tencent. Chinese wallet providers apply their own industry screening and restricted-item criteria, so confirming actual availability along with fees and settlement terms before signing a contract is necessary.

Confirm contract eligibility for businesses registered in Korea
The integration method differs depending on whether sales are online-only or also include physical stores in Singapore
Check in advance whether your business falls under a category restricted by WeChat Pay's merchant policies
Confirm compliance with Singapore's payment and foreign exchange regulations (see official sources below)
Merchant proceeds from WeChat Pay transactions are tallied in SGD and received by Hecto Financial; after conversion, they are deposited to the Korean merchant in whichever currency—USD, KRW, or JPY—was designated in the contract. Please note that settlement is not made in SGD as-is. The settlement cycle and fees follow the contract terms, and since refunds are returned to the consumer's WeChat wallet and require original transaction reference information, keeping careful track of order and transaction IDs is recommended.
