Apple Pay is a widely used NFC and token-based payment method in global markets, but it has not yet formally launched in India. This guide covers the local situation and realistic alternatives that Korean merchants targeting Indian customers should know before considering Apple Pay adoption.
India is a payment market centered on national infrastructure, where NPCI's UPI processes more than 10 billion transactions a month and leads online payments. Apple Pay, by contrast, has not formally launched in India as of July 2026, so cards issued by Indian banks cannot be registered for use. As a result, merchants whose primary customers are local Indian consumers should reasonably prioritize local methods such as UPI and RuPay over Apple Pay.
Apple Pay becomes meaningful only in a limited case: businesses that also target customers who have registered a foreign-issued card on an Apple device, such as foreigners traveling to and from India or non-resident Indians (NRIs). Even in this case, payment is processed through the registered card network, so if your goal is domestic Indian revenue, running local methods alongside it is effectively essential.
An Apple Pay payment is authorized through the token of a card registered on the device, and the consumer completes payment with just Face ID or Touch ID authentication. However, since the service has not formally launched in India, local card registration is not possible, so this flow only applies to customers who hold a foreign-issued card. When a transaction does go through, the amount is generated in INR, and the same structure applies: Hecto Financial receives it in the local currency and settles with the Korean merchant in whichever of USD, KRW, or JPY was chosen.
Integration through Hecto Financial can be considered under a contract with your Korean corporation, but for the Indian market specifically, you need to keep in mind the premise that Apple Pay has not launched locally. If your goal is revenue from Indian consumers, it is recommended to first discuss a combination with local methods such as UPI, net banking, and major e-wallets.

Confirm contract eligibility for Korea-registered businesses
Integration method differs depending on whether you are online-only or also include offline stores in India
Check in advance whether your products fall under a category restricted by the Apple Pay operator's merchant policy
Confirm compliance with India's payment and foreign exchange regulations (see official sources below)
The settlement structure for transactions routed through Apple Pay is the same as for other Indian payment methods. Hecto Financial receives and converts the amount generated in INR, then pays it out to the Korean merchant in whichever of USD, KRW, or JPY was chosen under contract, with the settlement cycle and fees following the contract terms. Refunds are returned to the card used for the original payment, and the processing deadline can vary depending on card network rules and Hecto Financial's policy.
Hecto Financial's team can help you review a payment method mix tailored to the Indian market.
